  •   Echeveria 'Blue Ruffles' is a rare ruffled rosette succulent in the Crassulaceae family, a hybrid bred for its distinctive frilled leaf margins and blue-gray coloring. It originates from hybrid cultivation programs drawing on Echeveria species native to Mexico and Central America.

The rosette grows with tightly layered, spoon-shaped leaves that curl and wave along the edges, forming a layered, ruffled structure. Each leaf is covered in a powdery farina that gives the surface a soft blue-gray appearance. The farina smudges if touched directly, so handling the leaves frequently changes how they look over time.

'Blue Ruffles' produces slender arching stems with small bell-shaped flowers in coral to orange-pink tones, typically in late spring or early summer. It needs a nighttime temperature drop to trigger blooming, so moving it somewhere cooler at night in late winter helps initiate the cycle. It does not produce a noticeable fragrance.

Move it outside for summer in a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade, but cover it or bring it in when rain is expected, as excess moisture on the rosette can cause rot. It tolerates the dry heated air common in indoor spaces during winter. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and this plant is pet friendly. Keep it on a high shelf if toddlers are in the home, as the farina and loose leaves can attract curious hands.

  •   Echeveria 'Blue Ruffles' grows well in bright indirect light to partial direct sun, ideally near an east- or west-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in spring and summer, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings, and reduce to once a month in winter.

'Blue Ruffles' does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix blended with coarse perlite or grit at roughly a 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors and should be kept away from air conditioning vents and heating registers.

'Blue Ruffles' is a slow-growing succulent that benefits from a diluted balanced fertilizer applied once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating lows of around 25°F to 30°F briefly before frost damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and parts of the Gulf Coast states. It also spends summer outdoors across much of the country and does well in autumn in zones 9 and above before temperatures drop.
  • Q: How much light does Echeveria 'Blue Ruffles' need indoors?
A: An east- or west-facing windowsill works well. A south-facing window in direct afternoon sun can scorch the leaves, showing up as brown or bleached patches on the farina-covered surface.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Echeveria 'Blue Ruffles' will show slightly soft or lightly wilting leaves when the soil has been dry long enough to need water. Overwatering is far more damaging than underwatering and shows up as mushy, translucent leaf bases.

Q: Is 'Blue Ruffles' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I keep it growing evenly?
A: Rotate 'Blue Ruffles' a quarter turn every week or two so all sides of the rosette receive equal light exposure.

Q: Can 'Blue Ruffles' go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay above 50°F. Place it where it gets morning sun but is sheltered from heavy rain, which can collect in the rosette and cause rot.

Q: Is this a rare succulent?
A: Yes, 'Blue Ruffles' is considered a rare Echeveria hybrid, less commonly available than standard Echeveria varieties and sought after for its ruffled blue-gray rosette form.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
