  •   Echeveria 'Big Lilac' is a rare large rosette succulent in the family Crassulaceae, bred as a hybrid cultivar prized among collectors for its exceptional size and soft pastel tones. It originates from hybrid breeding programs drawing on Mexican Echeveria species, combining the drought-tolerant traits of its wild relatives with an oversized, architectural rosette form.

The rosette grows wide and full, with thick, fleshy leaves that fan out in a layered silvery lilac to soft lavender-grey spread. Each leaf has a slightly cupped shape with gently ruffled or wavy edges and a powdery farina coating that gives the surface a matte, frosted look. The leaves can take on faint pink or purple blush along the margins in strong light, and the overall rosette can reach an impressive diameter compared to most indoor succulents.

'Big Lilac' produces tall flower stalks that rise from the base of the rosette, typically in spring or summer, bearing small bell-shaped blooms in coral to orange-pink tones. It needs a drop in nighttime temperature to trigger blooming, so keeping it near a window where nights cool down seasonally encourages flower production. This plant is pet friendly, so it can sit openly on shelves or floors without concern for cats or dogs.

Move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot, and cover it from rain since the farina coating and densely packed leaves trap moisture that can lead to rot. It is sensitive to direct airflow from air conditioners and heaters, so keep it away from vents. Rotate it every couple of weeks so each side receives even light exposure. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it tolerates the dry heated air common in winter homes without issue.

  •   Echeveria 'Big Lilac' grows well in bright indirect light to partial direct sun, such as an east- or west-facing windowsill.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

'Big Lilac' does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix of cactus soil and coarse perlite at roughly a 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should not drop below 40°F for extended periods.

'Big Lilac' is a slow-growing cultivar; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating outdoor temperatures down to around 25°F to 30°F briefly. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast. It can stay outdoors through autumn in milder coastal regions of the Pacific Northwest before temperatures drop too low.
  • Q: How large does Echeveria 'Big Lilac' get?
A: The rosette can reach 8 to 12 inches in diameter at maturity, which is notably larger than most common Echeveria cultivars.

Q: Is this succulent safe for cats and dogs?
A: Echeveria 'Big Lilac' is non-toxic and pet friendly, so it is safe around cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when 'Big Lilac' needs water?
A: The leaves will soften slightly or show mild wrinkling and wilting when the soil has been dry long enough to need water.

Q: Can this succulent scorch in a south-facing window?
A: 'Big Lilac' can scorch in an unobstructed south-facing window during summer, showing pale or brown patches on the leaf tips closest to the glass.

Q: Can 'Big Lilac' be propagated at home?
A: Leaf propagation works but is slow and not always reliable with larger hybrid cultivars; offsets from the base of the rosette, when they appear, root more consistently.

Q: How do I get this succulent to bloom?
A: 'Big Lilac' needs a consistent drop in nighttime temperature, ideally into the 50°F range, for several weeks in late winter or early spring to trigger a flower stalk.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
