  •   Echeveria Abalone is a compact rosette succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the semi-arid regions of Mexico. It grows as a tight, symmetrical rosette and handles drought conditions with ease, storing water in its thick, fleshy leaves.

The leaves are broad and spoon-shaped, arranged in a neat rosette that sits close to the soil. They carry a blue-green base color with soft lavender-pink edges that deepen in brighter light. The surface has a powdery coating, called farina, that gives the whole rosette a soft, frosted appearance. 'Abalone' stays compact, typically reaching 4 to 6 inches across at maturity.

It produces slender arching stems in spring, each tipped with small coral-pink to orange bell-shaped flowers. The blooms appear once a year and attract pollinators outdoors. Rotate 'Abalone' a quarter turn every week or two so all sides receive equal light and the rosette grows evenly rather than leaning toward the window.

Move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 50°F in summer, but place it under an overhang or cover since 'Abalone' needs protection from rain. It tolerates the dry heated air common in most indoor spaces through winter, though it does prefer to sit away from direct air conditioning or heating vents. This plant is pet friendly, and it releases oxygen at night, so a bedroom windowsill works well as a placement spot. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and the leaves will wilt slightly when the soil is dry.

  •   Echeveria Abalone grows well in bright indirect light and can handle a few hours of direct morning sun.

It needs water every 10 to 14 days in spring and summer, and once every 3 to 4 weeks in winter.

'Abalone' does best in a well-draining cactus or succulent mix, with perlite added to improve drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should stay above 40°F to avoid cold damage.

'Abalone' is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 25°F to 30°F briefly. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also stays outdoors through autumn in parts of Oregon and the coastal areas of Washington before temperatures drop.
  • Q: How much sun does Echeveria Abalone need indoors?
A: A spot near an east- or west-facing window works best. South-facing windows can scorch the leaves, so place it a foot or two back from the glass if that is your only option.

Q: How do I know when this plant needs water?
A: Echeveria Abalone shows you when it is thirsty. The leaves will feel slightly soft or begin to wrinkle, and the soil will be completely dry an inch or two down.

Q: Can 'Abalone' survive while I travel?
A: Water it thoroughly right before you leave and it will be fine for up to ten days on its own.

Q: Does this succulent flower indoors?
A: 'Abalone' is more likely to bloom when it gets a noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures, around 10°F cooler than daytime, which triggers the flowering cycle.

Q: Is 'Abalone' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: How big does this succulent get?
A: 'Abalone' reaches about 4 to 6 inches across at full size and grows slowly, so it stays compact and fits comfortably on a windowsill or desk for years.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
