    •   Braided Snake Plant Sansevieria, also called the African spear plant or cylindrical snake plant, is a sculptural succulent native to Angola and the surrounding regions of tropical West Africa. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and grows naturally in dry, rocky soil with intense sun and long dry seasons.

        The leaves are thick, cylindrical, and pointed at the tips, growing upward in a fan-like spread from a central base. In a braided form, young shoots are woven together as they grow, producing a plaited column of green-gray foliage with faint banding across the surface. Each leaf is firm and smooth, darkening slightly at the tip, with a cross-section that is perfectly round rather than flat.

        Blooms appear infrequently on mature plants, typically producing a single tall flower spike with small, tubular, white to pale pink flowers that carry a faint sweet fragrance at night. Braided Snake Plant also filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor air and releases oxygen after dark rather than during the day, continuing gas exchange through the night.

        Place it on a high shelf or a surface out of reach, as cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat the plant, and it is best placed away from small children as well. Sap from a broken leaf can cause skin or paw irritation on contact. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as direct blasts of conditioned or heated air dry out the leaf tips unevenly, though it handles the general dry heat of an indoor environment without trouble. It grows under standard office LED lighting and can survive up to ten days without water, a trait that applies whether it sits in a home or a workplace.
