    •   Anthurium 'Livium', also called Flamingo Flower, is a tropical houseplant in the Araceae family, native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It grows naturally in humid, shaded understories, which shapes everything about where it feels at home indoors.

        The spathe of 'Livium' is one of its most recognizable features, displaying a pale cream to white base with soft green or pink striping that runs along its surface. The waxy, heart-shaped spathe surrounds a slender spadix, and the leaves are a deep glossy green with a broad, lobed shape. The overall form is upright and compact, with stems that hold the blooms and foliage at an open, outward angle.

        'Livium' produces blooms in a cycle that can repeat throughout the year, with each flowering period lasting several weeks. The striped spathe fades gradually between flushes, and the plant tends to rest briefly before producing the next bloom. It has no notable fragrance. The foliage also purifies indoor air, filtering formaldehyde and other airborne toxins while naturally adding moisture to the air around it.

        Rotating 'Livium' every few weeks keeps growth even on all sides, since it consistently reaches toward its light source. It thrives near kitchen moisture and does well in bathrooms where humidity stays naturally high. The sap causes skin and paw irritation on contact, so it is best placed on a high shelf out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children. When the soil dries out, it wilts slightly, and the leaves return to their upright position once watered.

        Water it every seven to ten days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry before watering again.

        'Livium' does best in a chunky, well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil.

        It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F and is sensitive to cold drafts from air conditioning or heating vents.

        'Livium' is a moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month in spring and summer.

        It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is rare and temperatures stay above 30°F year-round. It grows outdoors in southern Florida, Hawaii, and parts of Southern California. It also grows outdoors in Puerto Rico and other warm, frost-free coastal areas within those zones.

    • Q: Is Anthurium 'Livium' safe for pets and children?
      A: The sap causes skin and paw irritation, and the plant should not be nibbled or eaten by cats or dogs. Keep it on a high shelf away from small children as well.

      Q: How do I know when it needs more humidity?
      A: Anthurium 'Livium' will show browning leaf tips when the air is too dry. Placing it near a kitchen or bathroom, or setting it on a pebble tray with water, helps keep humidity high enough.

      Q: How do I propagate 'Livium'?
      A: Divide it at the root clump during repotting, making sure each section has at least one stem and a healthy root system. Stem cuttings taken just below a node can also be rooted in water or moist sphagnum moss.

      Q: Why are the leaves on my plant turning yellow?
      A: 'Livium' most often yellows from overwatering, especially when the soil stays wet between waterings. Low humidity, cold drafts from an AC vent, or being moved to a new spot can also trigger yellowing.
