  •   Edithcolea Grandis, also called Persian Carpet Flower, is a rare succulent in the Apocynaceae family native to the arid regions of East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It grows well in rocky, sun-baked terrain with exceptional drainage and has earned a devoted collector following for its unusual character and hard-to-find status.

It produces thick, angular green stems covered in neat rows of soft spines, giving it a sculptural, almost geometric appearance. The textured stems have a distinctly reptilian quality that distinguishes it from most other succulents. It grows in a trailing, clumping habit, spreading generously over time to form a low, carpet-like mound.

This succulent produces extraordinary large, flat blooms patterned in burgundy, rust, and cream that resemble an intricately woven Persian carpet. The flowers benefit from a nighttime temperature drop to encourage blooming, and the plant typically needs to reach good size and maturity before producing its most impressive floral show. The blooms carry a scent that attracts flies for pollination, so flowering plants are best enjoyed with some ventilation.

Move it outside in summer to soak up full sun, but always provide cover from rain, as excess moisture on stems invites rot. The sap causes skin and paw irritation, so place it on a high shelf away from small children and pets. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Available in 2" and 4" sizes, it fits both compact shelves and wider display spaces as it matures.

  •   Edithcolea grandis Persian Carpet Flower Cactus grows well in bright indirect light to full sun but scorches in intense south-facing windows without afternoon protection.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks in summer and just once a month or less in winter.

Edithcolea Grandis grows well in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit and should be protected from any frost.

Edithcolea Grandis is a moderate, slow-spreading grower that benefits from diluted cactus fertilizer applied once monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 9 through 11. It grows outdoors year-round in warm states like Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada, as well as milder coastal stretches of Oregon. Gardeners in cooler zones throughout the rest of the country can grow it successfully as a container plant brought indoors before autumn temperatures drop.
  • Q: How much light does Edithcolea grandis Persian Carpet Flower Cactus need?
A: Position it in a south or west-facing window for best blooming. Intense afternoon rays can scorch the stems on a south-facing sill, so filter that exposure during peak summer hours.

Q: Is it safe around pets and children?
A: Edithcolea grandis Persian Carpet Flower Cactus has sap that causes skin and paw irritation and can be dangerous if ingested by a pet or small child, so keep it on a high shelf well out of reach.

Q: How do I propagate Edithcolea Grandis?
A: Take stem cuttings carefully, allow them to callous for several days, then place them in dry, well-draining cactus mix without watering until roots develop.

Q: Why are the stems turning yellow on my plant?
A: Edithcolea Grandis yellows most often when overwatered, placed in poor drainage, or exposed to cold drafts from AC or heating vents; reduce watering and move it away from direct airflow.

Q: Can Persian Carpet Flower survive while I'm away on a trip?
A: It can survive a 10-day absence without watering if placed in a bright spot before you leave, since the succulent nature of its stems lets it store water for extended periods.

Q: How big does this succulent get?
A: Persian Carpet Flower spreads outward generously over time rather than growing tall, with available sizes of 2" and 4" fitting both compact shelves and wider display spaces as it matures.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
