  •   Echeveria agavoides 'Martin's Hybrid' is a rare rosette succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to rocky, semi-arid regions of Mexico. It is a cultivated hybrid selection of Echeveria agavoides, bred for its pronounced leaf coloration and compact rosette form.

The rosette is composed of thick, pointed leaves that taper to a sharp tip, holding a pale green to grey-green base that deepens toward the margins. Under direct sun, the leaf edges and tips develop pronounced red to burgundy-red tones. Martins Hybrid spreads outward rather than growing tall, with each mature rosette reaching several inches across.

It can produce flower stalks in late spring to summer, typically bearing small coral-orange blooms on arching stems. A drop in night temperatures encourages blooming. This plant is pet friendly, and the sap can cause mild skin or paw irritation on contact, so it is worth keeping that in mind when handling.

Move it outside for the warmer months, though it needs cover from rain to prevent rot at the rosette center. Martins Hybrid is drought tolerant and can go up to ten days without water, even in a warm indoor space. Rotate it regularly so all sides of the rosette receive even light exposure, and keep it away from air conditioning and heating vents, which dry the air unevenly around the plant. It is a rare cultivar that draws interest from collectors of agavoides types.

  •   Echeveria agavoides 'Martin's Hybrid' grows well in bright indirect light to full direct sun, with some direct morning sun preferred.

Water it every 10-14 days during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

Martins Hybrid does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix, with at least 50% inorganic material.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors and does not tolerate frost.

Martins Hybrid is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b-11b, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 25°F briefly. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and similar warm-climate states in those zones.
  • Q: How much sun does Echeveria agavoides 'Martin's Hybrid' need?
A: A south or east-facing window works well. A south window in peak summer can scorch the leaves, so step it back a foot or filter the light slightly during the hottest months.

Q: How do I know when to water it?
A: Echeveria agavoides 'Martin's Hybrid' wilts slightly and the lower leaves soften when the soil has been dry too long. Check the soil first — if the top inch is still slightly damp, wait another day or two.

Q: Is Martins Hybrid safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs. The sap can cause mild skin or paw irritation on direct contact, so rinse off any sap after handling.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Martins Hybrid develops soft, translucent, or mushy leaves at the base when overwatered. Persistent overwatering leads to root rot, which spreads quickly in dense or poorly draining soil.

Q: Can Martins Hybrid survive while I'm away on a trip?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water without issue.

Q: How big does it get?
A: Martins Hybrid typically spreads 6-8 inches across at maturity, growing outward rather than upward in a low, wide rosette form.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
