  •   Crassula rupestris var. monticola is a succulent native to the rocky outcrops and mountain slopes of South Africa. A member of the Crassulaceae family, it evolved in dry, sun-drenched environments where tough conditions define survival.

It produces small, bead-like leaves stacked tightly along slender stems in a threading pattern. Leaves are green with reddish or purplish margins that deepen with increased light exposure. Its growth habit combines upright, trailing, and clustering tendencies, making it suitable for display on a shelf, in a hanging basket, or cascading from a hanging hook.

Crassula Monticola produces tiny clusters of pale pink to white star-shaped flowers in late winter to spring. A nighttime temperature drop encourages blooming. The flowers are small but add a soft seasonal accent to the plant.

Move it outside in summer to a patio or balcony where it gets good airflow and bright light. It handles balcony wind without trouble. Position it away from direct AC or heater vents indoors, and rotate it occasionally so all sides receive light. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Crassula rupestris var. monticola grows well in bright indirect light but scorches in harsh south-facing windows; rotate regularly for even growth.

Water it deeply every 10-14 days in summer and reduce to once a month in winter, always letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Crassula Monticola grows well in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with perlite at a 2:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60-80°F and is frost-sensitive below 30°F.

Crassula Monticola is a moderate-paced grower that benefits from diluted balanced succulent fertilizer once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating minimum temperatures around 25-30°F before frost damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. It can also be grown seasonally outdoors across Oregon's coast and in parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and North Carolina where zone conditions allow.
  • Q: How often should I water Crassula rupestris var. monticola?
A: Water deeply every 10-14 days during the growing season, then reduce to once a month in winter. Overwatering causes root rot, so let the soil dry completely between waterings.

Q: Can it survive indoors in low light?
A: Crassula rupestris var. monticola grows more slowly in low-light conditions. For faster growth, position it near a bright window where it receives several hours of indirect light daily.

Q: Is Crassula Monticola safe for cats or dogs?
A: Given conflicting toxicity data for plants in the Crassulaceae family, keep it out of reach of cats or dogs. A high shelf is a practical solution if pets are present.

    Q: Can I grow it outside year-round?
A: Crassula Monticola grows outdoors year-round in USDA zones 9-11 only. In colder areas, move it inside before temperatures drop near freezing.

Q: How do I propagate Crassula Monticola?
A: Stem cuttings root easily. Allow the cut end to callous for a day or two, then place it in dry succulent soil and water lightly once roots begin to form.

Q: What happens if it gets too much direct sun?
A: Crassula Monticola can scorch in harsh south-facing windows where intense afternoon sun beats down for hours. Rotate the pot regularly and provide bright indirect light instead.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
