  •   Crassula 'Imperialis', also called Giant Watch Chain, is a rare trailing succulent from the jade plant family native to South Africa's rocky outcrops. It naturally cascades over cliff faces and stone formations in its native habitat, a trailing growth pattern that defines its collector appeal.

The leaves are tightly stacked and triangular, forming chains along flexible stems that can stretch 2-3 feet long at maturity. The thick, fleshy foliage shifts from blue-green to gray-green, with pink edges appearing when grown under bright light. This structure creates the signature watch chain appearance that distinguishes it from other Crassula species.

Small, star-shaped white to pale pink flowers emerge in late winter to early spring on mature plants that receive adequate light and a cool period. The blooms cluster along the trailing stems and appear in low numbers. It tolerates dry indoor air and grows well under office LED lighting.

Use it as a hanging basket specimen indoors, or move it outside in summer where it handles balcony wind and rain with ease. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Keep it on a high shelf or hanging position since cats and dogs shouldn't nibble the foliage.

  •   Crassula 'Imperialis' - Giant Watch Chain grows in bright indirect light, partial sun, and full sun, and grows successfully under office LEDs.

Water it every 10-14 days when the soil dries completely, and watch for slight wilting as a sign of thirst.

Crassula 'Imperialis' grows well in well-draining cactus and succulent soil mix amended with perlite or pumice for extra drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65-80°F and tolerates brief drops to 35°F without damage.

Crassula 'Imperialis' is a moderate trailing grower that rarely needs fertilizer in proper succulent soil.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11 and tolerates brief cold snaps down to 35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, southern California, southern Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, coastal South Carolina, southern Georgia, southern Alabama, southern Mississippi, Nevada, and parts of coastal Oregon and North Carolina. In cooler zones, it grows as a seasonal outdoor plant during warm months.
  • Q: How often should I water Crassula 'Imperialis' - Giant Watch Chain?
A: Water when the soil is completely dry; the stems show slight wilting at that point.

Q: Can it grow in low-light conditions?
A: Crassula 'Imperialis' - Giant Watch Chain adapts well to low light and grows under office LED fixtures.

Q: Is Crassula 'Imperialis' safe around pets?
A: No, cats and dogs shouldn't nibble on it, so position it on a high shelf or in a hanging basket out of reach.

Q: How do I propagate it?
A: Crassula 'Imperialis' propagates easily from stem cuttings 2-3 inches long; let them dry 24-48 hours before planting in succulent soil.

Q: Why is Giant Watch Chain considered a collector plant?
A: Its cascading, chain-like growth habit and trailing form to 2-3 feet are rare traits in the succulent trade.

Q: Can it survive a vacation without water?
A: Giant Watch Chain easily survives 10-day absences due to its drought tolerance and preference for infrequent watering.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
