  •   Cotyledon orbiculata 'Oophylla' is a rare succulent native to South Africa, with distinctive thick, rounded, egg-shaped leaves. This compact cultivar grows in small clusters with a sculptural form that works well in modern plant displays and rock gardens.

It develops fleshy, nearly spherical leaves that stack in tight rosettes, creating a minimalist silhouette. The foliage ranges from soft gray-green to pale blue-green, sometimes taking on peachy or reddish tones depending on light exposure. The leaves have a smooth, waxy texture and grow densely clustered, keeping the plant compact and orderly.

In late summer through fall, Oophylla produces tall, upright flower stalks that rise above the foliage. The blooms are tubular and hang downward, colored in warm shades of orange to coral-red.

It grows well in arid, rocky conditions and tolerates drought exceptionally well. The plant stays small and is well-suited to container cultivation, shelves, and succulent arrangements. Move it outside in summer, but bring it inside or protect it before temperatures drop below 40°F.

  •   Cotyledon orbiculata 'Oophylla' grows well in bright, indirect light to full sun, with adequate sunlight maintaining its compact form and enhancing leaf coloration.

Water it sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering causes root rot and should be avoided.

Oophylla does best in well-draining succulent or cactus mix, amended with perlite or pumice for improved drainage and root health.

It prefers temperatures between 60–80°F and should be protected from exposure below 40–50°F.

Oophylla is a slow-growing compact succulent requiring no routine fertilization beyond annual diluted application during the growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9–11. It grows outdoors year-round in coastal California, southern Arizona, southern Texas, and Hawaii, where it avoids frost exposure. In zones 8 and colder, it must be grown indoors or brought inside before frost arrives.
  • Q: How often should Cotyledon orbiculata 'Oophylla' be watered?
A: During the growing season, water every 10–14 days. In winter, reduce watering to once monthly or less as growth slows significantly.

Q: What happens if I water it too much?
A: Cotyledon orbiculata 'Oophylla' is susceptible to root rot from prolonged soil moisture. Once rot sets in, the plant cannot be saved.

Q: Can Oophylla handle direct sun indoors?
A: Yes. A south or west-facing window provides enough direct light to maintain compact growth and bring out warmer leaf tones.

Q: How large does it grow?
A: Oophylla stays quite small, typically 2–4 inches tall and wide, making it perfect for small pots and tight plant shelves.

Q: Is Oophylla toxic to pets?
A: No, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

    Q: Can I propagate it?
A: Leaf propagation works well with Oophylla. Remove individual leaves, allow them to dry for a few days, then place on dry succulent soil until roots form.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
