The Croton 'Gold Dust' is an iconic and highly popular houseplant celebrated for its striking, vibrant foliage. This plant originates from Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia.
This variety is instantly recognizable by its rich green leaves liberally speckled with bright, cheerful yellow and gold flecks, giving it the appearance of being dusted with precious metal. The vibrancy of the 'Gold Dust' color is a direct indicator of the amount of light it receives—the more bright light, the more pronounced and intense the golden variegation will be.
Crotons can produce small, insignificant flowers that are typically creamy white or yellow and grow on long stalks (racemes).

It needs several hours of bright, direct morning sun or consistently bright, indirect light throughout the day to maintain its vivid golden spots. Low light will cause the new growth to be plain green and the plant to become leggy.
Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry. Crotons hate drying out completely, but they also hate 'wet feet.' Dropping leaves is often the first sign of improper watering (too much or too little).
Use a standard, well-draining potting mix.
The plant prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F (15°C - 29°C). It is sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C) can cause damage.
