  •   Calathea roseopicta 'Silvia' is a tropical houseplant from the Marantaceae family, native to the rainforests of Brazil and South America. In its natural habitat, it grows beneath dense forest canopies where filtered light and high humidity create the perfect environment. This prayer plant has gained popularity among indoor plant collectors for its bold, colorful foliage.

Calathea 'Silvia' is recognizable for its large, rounded leaves featuring a creamy white center that fades into silvery green, with deep emerald edges and burgundy undersides. The foliage grows in an upright, clumping habit, creating a full appearance from the start. Like all rose painted calathea varieties, the leaves fold upward in the evening in a movement known as nyctinasty, earning it the prayer plant nickname.

It occasionally produces small, inconspicuous blooms, but the foliage remains the focal point through every season. This prayer plant naturally humidifies the air around it and filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins.

Calathea 'Silvia' is pet friendly, fully non-toxic to cats, dogs, and other household pets. It grows well near kitchen moisture, loves a spot near a humidity tray or pebble tray, and is sensitive to air from AC units and heater vents, so keep it away from drafts. Rotate it regularly so all sides receive equal light, and avoid moving it frequently since it is sensitive to changes in its environment.

  •   Calathea roseopicta 'Silvia' grows well in medium to bright indirect light and scorches easily in direct south-facing sun.

Water it every 7–10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings; it wilts visibly when thirsty.

Calathea 'Silvia' does best in a well-draining, moisture-retentive mix of peat or coco coir, perlite, and potting soil.

It prefers temperatures between 65–85°F and should never be exposed to frost or cold below 60°F.

Calathea 'Silvia' is a moderate grower that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10–11, where temperatures stay above 30–35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, southern Texas, and southern Arizona. In Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Nevada, and along the mild Oregon and California coasts, bring it indoors when cool nights approach.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
