Calathea 'Princess Dalya' is a rare variegated prayer plant in the Marantaceae family, native to the tropical rainforests of South America. It evolved beneath dense forest canopies where humidity stays high and light filters softly through layered vegetation. It brings that exotic rainforest energy into your home.
It produces large, upright leaves with variegated patterning, featuring creamy to silvery markings against deep green. The foliage has a velvety texture. Like all prayer plants, the leaves fold gently upward at dusk and open again by morning, creating a living, rhythmic quality in any room.
This air purifying plant is grown primarily for its foliage rather than its modest, infrequent flowers in typical indoor conditions. It filters formaldehyde and other toxins from the air while naturally humidifying its surroundings. It is also pet safe and non-toxic to cats and dogs.
It grows well in kitchens and bathrooms where ambient moisture stays elevated and performs well under quality office LED lighting. The leaves wilt gently when thirsty. Keep it in a stable location away from air conditioning and heating vents, as it is sensitive to sudden temperature shifts and drafts.
Calathea 'Princess Dalya' grows well in medium to bright indirect light and scorches easily in south-facing windows.
Water it every 7 to 10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.
Calathea 'Princess Dalya' does best in a well-draining, moisture-retentive mix of peat or coco coir, perlite, and potting soil.
It prefers temperatures between 65 and 85°F and cannot tolerate frost or cold snaps.
Calathea 'Princess Dalya' is a moderate, clumping grower that benefits from balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during the growing season.
It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where temperatures stay above 30 to 35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, coastal and southern California, southern Texas, southern Arizona, and parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. It grows outdoors in summer in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, coastal Oregon, and Nevada's warmer valleys before being brought inside for winter protection.

Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered
light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do
NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour
off any excess water after a few minutes.
The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot
area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended
periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
