  •   Blue Candle CACTUS (Myrtillocactus geometrizans) is a drought-tolerant columnar cactus native to the semi-arid highlands and scrublands of central and northern Mexico. It belongs to the Cactaceae family and grows naturally in rocky, mineral-rich soils where rainfall is minimal and direct sun is abundant. Collectors worldwide seek this cactus for its rare form and sculptural presence.

The plant earns its name from its blue-grey waxy stems, which rise in bold, upright, candelabra-like columns with an unmistakably geometric silhouette. Each stem features distinct ribs lined with clusters of short black spines, and the powdery cerulean bloom on the skin deepens when exposed to bright light. It grows in a tree-like, branching form.

Small creamy-white to pale greenish flowers bloom along the ribs, typically appearing in late winter to early spring on mature plants. A night temperature drop encourages flowering, so placing it near a cool window in autumn can help trigger a bloom cycle. The blossoms do produce pollen, which matters for allergy-sensitive households.

Move it outside for summer sun and fresh air, but shelter it from heavy rain to prevent root rot. It does well in bright living rooms, sunny patios, and xeriscape gardens in warm climates. Because of its spines, place it away from small children and out of casual reach. This blue myrtle cactus produces edible berries and has traditional medicinal uses.

  •   Blue Candle CACTUS grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though intense south-facing windows may scorch it without gradual acclimation.

Water it deeply every 2–3 weeks in summer, reducing to once a month or less in winter when growth slows.

Cactus does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix blended with extra perlite or coarse sand for optimal root health.

It prefers temperatures between 50–95°F and is frost sensitive, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F only when soil is dry.

Cactus is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a specialized low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer applied once monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9–11, tolerating brief frost to about 25°F in dry conditions and performs best where winters stay mild. It grows outdoors in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. It may also succeed in sheltered parts of the Oregon coast and in Arkansas and North Carolina with excellent drainage and frost protection.
  • Q: Is Blue Candle CACTUS pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs. The spines can cause physical injury, so keep it out of reach of curious pets.

Q: What window direction works best for indoor growth?
A: Bright indirect light from an east or west-facing window suits most conditions. Blue Candle CACTUS can scorch in intense afternoon south-facing sun without time to acclimate.

Q: How fast does Cactus grow indoors?
A: It adds a few inches per year under ideal bright-light conditions. Indoors, it typically reaches 3–6 feet over many years.

Q: Should I move it outside in summer?
A: Cactus benefits from outdoor placement during warm months, gaining extra sunlight and airflow. Acclimate it gradually and shelter it from heavy rain.

Q: How do you propagate Cactus?
A: Remove a healthy stem cutting and allow it to callous for 1–2 weeks before planting in dry cactus mix. Keep it warm and withhold water for the first few weeks to encourage rooting.

Q: What signs show it needs water?
A: The soil should dry out completely between waterings; water when the top inch is bone dry. Wilting or soft spots indicate overwatering or poor drainage.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
