  •   Blossfeldia Cactus is the world's smallest known cactus, a rare miniature gem from the rocky highlands of Argentina and Bolivia. It belongs to the genus Blossfeldia within the Cactaceae family and grows naturally in cliff crevices at high altitudes, making it a discovery for any serious cactus collector.

The plant forms tiny, flat-topped, spineless buttons rarely exceeding half an inch in diameter, with a soft grayish-green surface marked by fine woolly areoles arranged in neat spiral rows. Its clumping, clustering growth style creates miniature colonies over time, and the smooth, spineless body is recognizable among cactus species.

It produces pale pink to white flowers that emerge from the crown areoles, typically in spring and summer. A drop in nighttime temperature into the 50s°F triggers blooming, with cooler late-winter and early-spring conditions mimicking its natural highland environment and encouraging abundant flower production.

This cactus suits windowsills, shelves, and desk displays where space is limited. It is sensitive to relocation once established, so choose its spot with care and let it settle. Keep it sheltered from rain and away from heating and cooling vents. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

  •   Blossfeldia Cactus grows well in bright indirect light to partial sun, with gentle full sun exposure welcome in mild conditions.

Water it sparingly every 2-3 weeks during summer, reducing to once a month or less in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Blossfeldia does best in fast-draining cactus soil blended with perlite or coarse sand at roughly 50/50 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 50-85°F and is not frost tolerant below 30°F.

Blossfeldia is an extremely slow-growing cactus needing only light diluted cactus fertilizer once in spring.

It is hardy in USDA FAQs/ Common Issues Zones 9-11, where temperatures rarely dip below 20-25°F for extended periods. It grows outdoors in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. Coastal areas of Oregon, warmer pockets of New Mexico, and parts of Arkansas and North Carolina near Zone 9 boundaries can also work with seasonal protection.
  • Q: How often should I water Blossfeldia Cactus?
A: Water every 2-3 weeks during growing season. Let the soil dry completely between waterings, and cut back to once a month or less in winter.

Q: Is it safe for pets?
A: Blossfeldia Cactus is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs with no known toxicity risk.

Q: How large does Blossfeldia grow?
A: Individual heads rarely grow beyond half an inch across. Its clumping habit slowly builds a colony, but it remains extremely tiny throughout its life.

Q: What window placement works best for light?
A: Blossfeldia does well in bright indirect light near an east or west-facing window. Avoid harsh south-facing windows where intense direct sun can scorch the plant.

Q: Why is Blossfeldia so rare?
A: It grows in a very narrow natural habitat in the Andes and is notoriously slow to propagate and cultivate, making healthy specimens difficult to find.

Q: Can this plant handle neglect during travel?
A: It can survive up to ten days without water. Plan for a plant sitter or self-watering setup for trips longer than that.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
