  •   Bishop's Cap Cactus Astrophytum Myriostigma, also called Bishop's Cap Cactus, is a rare, spineless cactus native to the arid highlands of central and northeastern Mexico. It grows well in rocky, well-draining terrain under intense sun and has become a standout collector plant for anyone drawn to low-maintenance, architectural succulents. This slow-growing plant makes a thoughtful gift for beginner plant parents and experienced collectors alike.

The plant grows in a star-shaped, upright form with typically four to five pronounced ribs that create a bishop's mitre silhouette. Its forest green body is dusted with tiny white or silvery flecks called trichomes, giving it a soft gray to silver sheen that catches the light. The geometric structure and soft-spotted texture make it one of the most visually striking dry air plants you can grow indoors or on a sunny patio.

Astrophytum myriostigma produces yellow flowers that emerge from the crown during spring and summer, often with a subtle, pleasant fragrance. Blooms appear on mature specimens when a nighttime temperature drop occurs. The yellow blooms contrast beautifully against the silver-spotted green body.

Move it outside in summer to a bright spot, just cover or shelter it from heavy rain to protect the roots. It tolerates dry heated air and low humidity without trouble, making it one of the most adaptable drought-tolerant plants you can own. This cactus is pet-friendly and its slow, upright growth means it stays tidy for years or decades, making it a true heirloom specimen for serious collectors. Astrophytum myriostigma rarely produces offsets, so propagation is best done from seed sown in a gritty, well-draining mix kept warm and bright.

  •   Bishop's Cap Cactus Astrophytum Myriostigma grows well in bright indirect light but can scorch in intense south-facing windows without afternoon shade.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in summer, and just once a month or less in winter to prevent root rot.

Astrophytum myriostigma does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus and perlite mix that prevents root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 95°F and is not frost tolerant below 25°F.

Astrophytum myriostigma is a slow grower needing only light, diluted cactus fertilizer once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but performing best where winters stay mild. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. It also grows well through the warmer months in the milder coastal zones of Oregon and Washington.
  • Q: Is Bishop's Cap Cactus Astrophytum Myriostigma safe for pets?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What window direction works best for this plant?
A: North or east-facing windows work well, or place it a few feet back from a bright south or west window to avoid leaf scorch on Bishop's Cap Cactus Astrophytum Myriostigma.

Q: How fast does Astrophytum myriostigma grow?
A: It grows slowly, typically adding just an inch or so per year, making it suitable for small spaces and long-term collections.

Q: What does overwatering look like?
A: Yellowing or soft, mushy spots near the base indicate overwatering in Astrophytum myriostigma; let the soil dry completely between waterings and ensure your pot drains freely.

Q: How do I propagate Bishop'S Cap Cactus?
A: Propagate from seed sown in gritty, well-draining mix and keep it warm and bright, as it rarely produces offsets.

Q: Can I move this plant outside in summer?
A: Yes. Bishop'S Cap Cactus loves spending summer outdoors in a bright spot with protection from heavy rain.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
