  •   Graptopetalum paraguayense, also called Ghost Plant, is a drought-tolerant succulent from the Crassulaceae family native to the rocky cliffs of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Its pale, otherworldly rosettes have a ghostly appearance that inspired the common name.

The plant forms plump, layered rosettes packed with thick, pointed leaves that shift between soft gray, blush pink, and creamy white depending on light exposure and season. Variegation adds vivid contrast to the classic species, with each rosette feeling like a rare find. As a trailing plant, stems elongate beautifully over time, spilling over pot edges and works equally well in hanging baskets or cascading from shelves.

Small, star-shaped flowers appear in late winter to spring, typically white to pale yellow with subtle pink or red speckling at the center. Blooms emerge when the plant experiences a temperature drop at night, triggering the flowering cycle naturally. No strong fragrance is present, but the blooms add seasonal interest.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Graptopetalum paraguayense tolerates dry heated air indoors. It is pet-friendly and safe for cats and dogs. Find a stable spot and avoid moving it frequently, as it is sensitive to being shifted around. This variegated form works as a starter plant or addition to any succulent collection.

  •   Variegated Ghost Plant - Graptopetalum paraguayense grows well in bright indirect light but may scorch in intense south-facing windows without filtering.

Water it deeply every 10-14 days in summer and every 3-4 weeks in winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Graptopetalum paraguayense performs best in fast-draining cactus and perlite mix, ideally 50% gritty amendment to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65-80°F and is not frost-tolerant below 25°F.

Graptopetalum paraguayense is a slow grower needing minimal fertilizer, benefiting from one light spring feeding with balanced diluted succulent fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but performing best where winters stay mild. It grows outdoors across Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada. Along milder coastal areas of Oregon, Washington, and North Carolina, it can also be grown outdoors with minimal frost protection during cold snaps.
  • Q: Is Variegated Ghost Plant - Graptopetalum paraguayense pet-friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: Why are the leaves turning yellow?
A: Variegated Ghost Plant - Graptopetalum paraguayense develops yellow leaves from overwatering or poor drainage. Ensure the pot has drainage holes and allow soil to dry completely between waterings.

Q: How do I propagate Graptopetalum paraguayense?
A: Gently twist off a healthy leaf, let it callous for a day or two, then lay it on dry succulent soil and mist lightly until roots and a new rosette appear.

Q: Can it survive outdoors in cold climates?
A: Graptopetalum paraguayense cannot stay outdoors year-round below zone 9, but you can move it outside for summer and bring it back inside before temperatures drop below 40°F in autumn.

Q: How big does Ghost Plant get?
A: Individual rosettes typically reach 2-4 inches across, but the whole specimen can spread considerably over time as a wide-trailing plant, ideal for hanging baskets or cascading displays.

Q: What window direction works best for indoor growing?
A: Ghost Plant thrives in bright indirect light from an east or west-facing window; south-facing windows may cause leaf scorch without a sheer curtain or partial shade from a nearby tree or structure.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
