  •   Sempervivum 'Hot Summer' is a hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountains of Europe and western Asia. It evolved in rocky, nutrient-poor soils and has become one of the most dependable drought-tolerant succulents for both indoor and outdoor growing.

'Hot Summer' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that shift between green and deep maroon depending on sun exposure and season. The leaves display striking color contrast making it one of the most eye-catching colorful hens and chicks varieties available. Its upright, architectural rosette habit gives it a sculptural quality that stands out in containers, rock gardens, and windowsill displays. Each rosette blooms once, then produces a ring of offsets that keep the cluster spreading, forming a mat of rosettes over time.

'Hot Summer' flowers once per rosette before producing new offsets that expand the planting. It is slow-growing and rarely needs pruning, remaining tidy without intervention. It is pet friendly and safe for cats and dogs.

'Hot Summer' handles balcony wind and rain without trouble, making it a natural choice for outdoor planters, green roofs, and rock gardens. Move it outside for summer; it can stay outdoors well into autumn thanks to its impressive frost tolerance. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is a wide spreader, steadily filling containers and garden beds with new rosettes.

  •   Sempervivum 'Hot Summer' grows well in bright indirect light but also tolerates direct sun and adapts to lower-light spots with regular rotation.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks in summer and reduce to once a month or less in winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

'Hot Summer' does best in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with perlite or coarse sand to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 75°F indoors and tolerates freezing down to around -40°F outdoors.

'Hot Summer' is a slow grower that rarely needs pruning and requires only a light, diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 3 through 8, tolerating frost down to approximately -40°F. It grows outdoors across much of the northern United States, including Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. It also performs well in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, plus the moderate climates of Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, and New Mexico.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
