  •   Sempervivum Arctic White is a frost-hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe and western Asia where it grows in rocky alpine terrain. It has been cultivated for centuries and remains one of the most popular hens and chicks varieties for both indoor and outdoor growing.

The plant forms tight, symmetrical rosettes covered in fine white webbing that stretches across the leaf tips like delicate threads, creating the signature cobweb succulent look. Fleshy leaves are pale green to silvery-white, and it spreads naturally into dense, clumping mats as the mother rosette produces offsets around its base. Individual rosettes typically reach 2 to 4 inches in diameter and cluster together over time.

When conditions align, flowering rosettes send up a central stalk and bloom, after which that rosette completes its life cycle while the surrounding chicks continue to grow. The plant may require a drop in nighttime temperatures to trigger blooming, a natural cue that mirrors its alpine origins.

It handles balcony wind and rain with ease, tolerates dry heated air indoors, and can move outside for summer or stay outdoors into autumn without trouble. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is non-toxic and safe to keep in homes with cats and dogs.

  •   Sempervivum Arctic White grows well in partial to full sun, receiving at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every two to three weeks indoors.

Sempervivum 'Arctic White' grows well in gritty, well-draining soil such as cactus mix blended with perlite at a 1:1 ratio.

It handles temperatures from around 65°F to 85°F indoors and is frost tolerant in cold climates outdoors.

Sempervivum 'Arctic White' is a slow to moderate grower and needs no regular fertilizing, though a light dose of diluted succulent fertilizer in spring is welcome.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, tolerating frost down to approximately -40°F at the coldest end of its range. It grows outdoors year-round across the northern and central United States, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, New York, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Kentucky. It also does well in Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and parts of Texas and California.
  • Q: How often should I water Sempervivum Arctic White?
A: Every two to three weeks indoors when the soil is completely dry. Outdoors, rainfall usually handles watering, but ensure drainage is excellent to prevent rot at the rosette center.

    Q: Is it pet friendly?
A: Sempervivum Arctic White is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: Can Sempervivum 'Arctic White' survive extreme cold winters?
A: It tolerates frost down to -40°F and survives outdoors year-round in USDA zones 3 through 8.

Q: How big does it get?
A: Individual rosettes of Sempervivum 'Arctic White' reach 2 to 4 inches in diameter and spread into wide clumping mats as offsets develop around the mother rosette over time.

Q: How do I propagate Sempervivum 'Arctic White'?
A: Twist off a chick (offset) from the base, let it callous for a day, then plant it in well-draining gritty soil where it roots quickly.

Q: Does it need protection from rain?
A: Sempervivum 'Arctic White' handles normal rain and wind outdoors but benefits from cover during prolonged wet spells to prevent rot. Good soil drainage in containers or garden beds is the most important protection.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
