The Seashell Magnet with Tillandsia Air Plant pairs a living Tillandsia, part of the Bromeliaceae family native to the forests, mountains, and deserts of Central and South America, with a genuine seashell that doubles as a magnetic display. Tillandsias are epiphytes, meaning they absorb water and nutrients through their leaves rather than roots, making soil completely unnecessary. This makes them one of the most versatile and low-maintenance houseplants available.
The Tillandsia nestled inside the seashell features slender, arching leaves that range from silver-green to soft gray, often with a slightly fuzzy texture created by tiny trichomes that help the plant absorb moisture from the air. The natural seashell vessel gives the piece a coastal, organic aesthetic that pairs well with a variety of interior styles. The magnet backing allows it to cling to refrigerators, magnetic boards, metal lockers, or any magnetic surface, keeping the display compact and eye-catching.

Tillandsia air plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Place the seashell magnet near a window that receives several hours of filtered sunlight each day, such as a north- or east-facing spot. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. Fluorescent or full-spectrum grow lights work well if natural light is limited, making this an adaptable indoor houseplant for a range of spaces.
Mist the Tillandsia two to three times per week, or remove it from the shell and soak it in room-temperature water for 20 to 30 minutes every one to two weeks. After soaking, shake off excess water and allow the plant to dry completely before placing it back in the shell, as trapped moisture can cause rot. In drier climates or during winter heating season, more frequent misting helps keep the leaves hydrated and healthy.
Tillandsias prefer temperatures between 50°F and 90°F (10°C and 32°C) and do best in average household humidity levels. They appreciate some air circulation, so placing them near a gently circulating fan or an open window occasionally is beneficial. Keep the plant away from heating vents, air conditioning drafts, and cold windowpanes during winter, as sudden temperature extremes can stress the plant.
Feed your Tillandsia once a month using a bromeliad or air plant fertilizer diluted to one quarter of the recommended strength. Apply it by misting the fertilizer solution directly onto the leaves. Regular fertilizing encourages stronger growth and can promote the plant to bloom and produce offsets, called pups, which can eventually be separated to grow new plants.
