Snake Plant Sansevieria Laurentii, also called mother in law tongue, is a drought tolerant evergreen perennial native to West Africa, where it grows in dry, rocky soil and low-light conditions. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is one of the most widely grown air purifying plants kept indoors.

The leaves grow tall, stiff, and upright, reaching two to four feet in height with a sword-like shape. Each leaf is deep green with irregular horizontal banding across the surface and a consistent bright yellow margin running along both edges. The leaf edges hold their yellow border throughout the year, and the upright form stays dense as the plant matures.

Snake Plant rarely blooms indoors, but when it does, it produces tall slender stalks with small, tubular white to pale greenish flowers that carry a light fragrance, typically at night. A drop in nighttime temperature can encourage flowering. It also filters formaldehyde and other toxins from indoor air and releases oxygen at night, which sets it apart from most houseplants.
