  •   Senecio barbertonicus is a South African succulent from the Asteraceae family, native to rocky hillsides and scrublands where it grows well in warm, dry conditions. It brings upright, clustered growth and aromatic foliage to indoor and outdoor gardens.

It produces tall stems densely packed with narrow, finger-like green leaves that release a faint lemony scent when brushed. The bright green foliage stands out on shelves or windowsills. Over time, it clusters and fills out into a full, sculptural form with a distinctive upright habit.

Small yellow flower clusters bloom seasonally, carrying a light fragrance. A night temperature drop helps encourage blooming indoors. The flowers produce pollen and allergens, so placement matters if anyone in your home has sensitivities.

Rotate it regularly so all sides receive even light and grow symmetrically. It handles dry heated indoor air well and can move outside for summer in a warm, sheltered spot. Keep it on a high shelf out of reach, as the sap causes skin and paw irritation in cats and dogs, and it should be kept away from small children.

  •   Senecio barbertonicus grows well in bright indirect light for 4 to 6 hours daily and can scorch in harsh, direct south-facing windows.

Water it using a soak-and-dry method, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every 10 to 14 days.

Senecio Barbertonicus does best in a well-draining cactus and succulent soil mix that prevents moisture from sitting around the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 80°F and should be protected from frost and freezing conditions.

Senecio Barbertonicus is a moderate grower that benefits from light feeding with a balanced liquid fertilizer once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25 to 30°F before frost damage becomes a risk. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, Southern California, coastal and inland Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. It also grows in the mild coastal stretches of Oregon and Washington, and in sheltered settings within the warmer parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and North Carolina that fall within these zones.
  • Q: How often should I water Senecio barbertonicus?
A: Every 10 to 14 days when the soil has dried out completely. It wilts slightly when thirsty.

Q: Can it grow outside in summer?
A: Move Senecio barbertonicus outside to a warm, sheltered spot with bright indirect light during summer and bring it back inside before autumn temperatures drop.

Q: Does Senecio Barbertonicus need bright direct sun?
A: It grows best in bright indirect light; direct south-facing sun can scorch the leaves, so an east or west window works well.

Q: Is it safe around pets and children?
A: Senecio Barbertonicus sap causes skin and paw irritation in cats and dogs, so it should be placed on a high shelf well out of reach of both pets and small children.

Q: How do I propagate Senecio Barbertonicus?
A: Take stem cuttings in spring or summer, allow the cut end to callous for a day or two, then plant in well-draining cactus and succulent soil and water sparingly until roots establish.

Q: What window direction works best for indoor growth?
A: Senecio Barbertonicus grows well in an east or west window with bright indirect light; south-facing placement exposes it to intense sun that can burn the foliage.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
