  •   Parodia erubescens Cactus is a globe cactus native to South America, particularly Uruguay and neighboring regions, where it grows on rocky, well-drained hillsides in naturally dry conditions. It belongs to the Parodia genus within the Cactaceae family and is popular among collectors and casual growers.

Parodia erubescens forms a compact, upright globe that gradually produces offsets to create a clumping growth habit over time. Its spherical body is densely ribbed and armed with copper-toned spines that catch light across the surface, giving it a bold texture.

It produces vivid yellow to golden-yellow flowers that emerge from the crown during spring and summer. Blooms reappear annually when the plant receives a cool nighttime temperature drop during winter, which triggers the flowering cycle. The blooms produce pollen that may affect allergy-sensitive households.

Move it outside in summer to soak up natural sun, though provide cover from rain to prevent root rot and soggy soil. The sharp spines mean it should be placed away from small children and kept on a high shelf out of easy reach. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Parodia erubescens Cactus grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though intense south-facing windows during peak summer can cause scorching.

Water it thoroughly every 2–3 weeks in summer, reducing to once a month or less in winter when growth slows.

Parodia erubescens does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix combined with perlite or coarse sand for excellent aeration.

It prefers temperatures between 50–95°F and is not frost tolerant, so bring it indoors before temperatures drop near freezing.

Parodia erubescens is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a diluted, low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer applied once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9–11, tolerating brief dips to around 25–28°F only with excellent drainage and dry conditions. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal areas of Oregon. Parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and the warmer pockets of North Carolina and Virginia may also support it with adequate winter protection.
  • Q: How often should I water Parodia erubescens Cactus?
A: Always let the soil dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot. In warmer months, check the soil weekly; in cooler months, extend the interval to every 3–4 weeks or longer.

Q: Which window direction works best for light?
A: Parodia erubescens Cactus performs well in east or west-facing windows that provide morning or afternoon light without intense midday heat. South-facing windows can work if you filter the strongest afternoon rays during summer.

Q: Is Parodia erubescens safe around pets?
A: It is non-toxic and generally pet-friendly, but the sharp spines can cause physical discomfort, so keep it out of paws' reach.

Q: How large does it grow?
A: Parodia erubescens typically reaches 4–6 inches in height and width as a solitary globe, slowly forming attractive clumps of offsets over several years.

Q: Why isn't Parodia erubescens blooming?
A: Insufficient light during the growing season will prevent flowers from forming. Ensure it sits in bright conditions for at least 4–6 hours daily.

    Q: Can I keep it outside year-round?
A: Parodia erubescens survives year-round outdoors only in warm, consistently dry climates. In zones with winter frost or significant rainfall, bring it indoors before the first freeze and keep it dry while dormant.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
