  •   Cotyledon Papillaris Choco Line is a rare succulent from South Africa, part of the Cotyledon genus in the Crassulaceae family. It grows naturally in rocky, sun-drenched terrain where dry conditions and excellent drainage define its habitat.

The plant's compact, upright clumping form and thick, fleshy leaves are distinctive. Leaves are edged with a chocolate-brown margin that gives the cultivar its name, with a slightly powdery coating and sculptural quality. It stays tidy as it grows, forming increasingly dense clusters over time.

A nighttime temperature drop encourages blooming, a natural rhythm that mirrors its South African origins. While specific bloom details for this cultivar are not widely documented, the genus produces tubular, pendulous flowers on tall stalks, so seasonal cool-downs are worth providing.

Rotate the pot regularly for balanced growth. Move it outside in summer in a bright, sheltered spot, but cover it from rain since excess moisture can cause rot. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Cats, dogs, and other pets should be kept away from it. Place it on a high shelf well out of reach of small children and toddlers.

  •   Cotyledon Papillaris Choco Line grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though it can scorch in prolonged intense afternoon sun through a south-facing window.

Water it deeply every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry completely between waterings and cutting back to once a month in winter.

Choco Line grows well in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as quality cactus and succulent blend combined with extra perlite or coarse pumice at roughly 50/50 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 85°F and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop near freezing, as it is not frost hardy.

Choco Line is a slow to moderate grower and appreciates a light, balanced succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer to support healthy clumping growth.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, where winter lows stay above roughly 20 to 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal areas of Oregon and Washington. It can also grow outdoors with seasonal protection in New Mexico, parts of Arkansas, and warm pockets of the mid-Atlantic.
  • Q: How often should I water Cotyledon Papillaris Choco Line?
A: Every 10 to 14 days during the growing season. In winter, once a month is sufficient.

Q: What causes scorching on the leaves?
A: Cotyledon Papillaris Choco Line develops burned foliage from prolonged intense afternoon sun through a south-facing window. Move it to bright indirect light or morning sun instead.

Q: Is Choco Line toxic to pets?
A: Yes, keep cats and dogs away from it, as the sap can cause skin or paw irritation on contact.

Q: How big does it get?
A: Choco Line grows in a compact, upright clumping form and stays relatively small, suitable for shelves and windowsills.

Q: Can Choco Line be propagated?
A: The most reliable method is stem or leaf cuttings taken in spring or early summer, allowed to callous for a day or two before placing in dry, gritty mix.

Q: Will this plant survive a trip without water?
A: Yes, Choco Line can go up to ten days without water.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
