The leaves are small and heart-shaped, with a waxy texture and forest green color that intensifies in bright light. Each leaf is thick and slightly succulent, holding moisture and giving the plant a sculptural form. Mature vining plants develop long trailing stems that cascade from hanging baskets or drape over shelves and edges.

Under the right conditions, including a slight drop in nighttime temperatures, it produces clusters of tiny star-shaped flowers in creamy white to pale pink, often with a sweet subtle fragrance.
