  •   Hoya Sweetheart is a succulent vine from the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Vietnam, and southern China. A member of the Apocynaceae family, this houseplant has become a collector favorite for its visual appeal and forgiving nature.

The leaves are small and heart-shaped, with a waxy texture and forest green color that intensifies in bright light. Each leaf is thick and slightly succulent, holding moisture and giving the plant a sculptural form. Mature vining plants develop long trailing stems that cascade from hanging baskets or drape over shelves and edges.

Under the right conditions, including a slight drop in nighttime temperatures, it produces clusters of tiny star-shaped flowers in creamy white to pale pink, often with a sweet subtle fragrance. Blooms tend to appear on mature specimens during warmer months. The plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs, so it can be placed anywhere in your home.

Hoya Sweetheart grows well near kitchen moisture and appreciates regular rotation for even growth. Move it outside to a sheltered spot during summer where it soaks up warmth and humidity, then bring it back indoors before temperatures drop below 50°F. A mature specimen in a hanging basket delivers a trailing accent, while a single-leaf starter plant makes a meaningful gift. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Hoya Sweetheart grows well in bright indirect light, ideally near an east or west-facing window.

Water it every 2-3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Hoya Sweetheart grows well in a mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark in equal parts.

It prefers temperatures between 60-85°F and should be protected from temperatures below 50°F.

Hoya Sweetheart is a moderate grower; feed it monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11, where temperatures rarely dip below 30-35°F, and grows outdoors year-round in those regions. It grows outdoors in Hawaii, southern Florida, and frost-free pockets of southern California and far southern Texas. In Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Oregon's coastal zones, and much of the broader Southeast, it grows as a container plant that moves outside during warm months and returns indoors before any cold snaps.
  • Q: Is Hoya Sweetheart pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs and can be placed anywhere in your home.

Q: Why are the leaves on my plant turning yellow?
A: Hoya Sweetheart's leaves turn yellow most often from overwatering or sitting in soggy soil. Reduce watering frequency and ensure the pot has drainage holes.

Q: How do I propagate Hoya Sweetheart?
A: Take a stem cutting with at least one node and place it in water or moist sphagnum moss until roots develop. A single leaf cutting without a node will root but rarely produces a full vining plant.

Q: Can it grow under artificial light in an office?
A: Hoya Sweetheart adapts to office LED grow lights, though it will grow well and bloom better with some natural bright indirect light added.

Q: Can I move Hoya Sweetheart outside in summer?
A: It loves spending summer outdoors in a sheltered spot with warm temperatures and humidity. Bring it back inside before nighttime temperatures drop below 50°F.

Q: How long can it survive without water?
A: Hoya Sweetheart can go up to ten days without water.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
