  •   Haworthia marumiana var. Batesiana Succulent is a rare haworthia variety native to the Eastern Cape region of South Africa, where it grows in rocky, semi-arid terrain under partial shade. This member of the Asphodelaceae family has become a collector favorite for its compact clustering habit and ease of care under indoor light.

Haworthia Batesiana forms tight rosettes of dark green leaves marked with white tubercles and translucent windowed tips. The compact rosettes typically reach 2 to 3 inches across and naturally offset to create dense, jewel-like clumps over time. It produces small flowering spikes during the bloom season, though the foliage itself is the primary visual draw for most growers.

Like other haworthia species, it produces pollen and may trigger allergies during bloom season. One of its most notable traits is that it releases oxygen at night, making it a functional addition to bedrooms and living spaces. It is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Haworthia Batesiana grows well in terrariums, windowsill collections, and desk arrangements under office LED lighting or low to medium indoor light. You can leave it up to ten days without water. The clustering habit develops naturally over time, producing increasingly dense, sculptural clumps.

  •   Haworthia marumiana var. Batesiana Succulent grows well in low, medium, or bright indirect light and scorches in direct south-facing windows.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season and once a month or less during winter dormancy.

Haworthia Batesiana does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite for added drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 85°F and is sensitive to frost below 40°F.

Haworthia Batesiana is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a diluted balanced fertilizer applied once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating outdoor conditions only where temperatures stay reliably above 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal Oregon. It can be moved outside for summer in warmer parts of Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia, returning indoors before the first frost.
  • Q: Is Haworthia marumiana var. Batesiana Succulent pet-friendly?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Q: What window placement works best for growing this plant indoors?
A: Haworthia marumiana var. Batesiana Succulent grows well within 2–3 feet of an east or north-facing window. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Q: How do you propagate Haworthia Batesiana?
A: It naturally produces offsets around the base of the mother rosette, which can be gently separated and potted once they develop roots.

Q: Can it grow under artificial light?
A: Haworthia Batesiana grows well under office LED lighting, making it suitable for desk setups and interior spaces without natural light.

Q: How long can Haworthia Batesiana go without water?
A: It survives up to 10 days without watering. This tolerance makes it suitable for occasional travel.

Q: What causes leaf scorching on this plant?
A: Haworthia Batesiana scorches when exposed to direct south-facing sunlight. Move it away from windows with intense afternoon rays, or filter the light with a sheer curtain.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
