  •   Glacier English Ivy (Hedera helix 'Glacier'), a variegated trailing ivy houseplant from the Hedera genus, is a cultivar of the European ivy species native to the forests and rocky hillsides of western, central, and northern Europe. It has been widely grown as both an indoor plant and a garden ground cover for centuries.

The leaves are small, three to five-lobed, and pale green at the center with irregular white and grey-green margins. New growth comes in lighter tones that deepen slightly as the leaves mature. The stems trail and vine outward, extending several feet when given room to hang, and the overall texture of the foliage is slightly waxy to the touch.

Glacier English Ivy rarely blooms indoors, so its appeal comes from the foliage year-round. It filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins, and as an air purifying plant it performs consistently under the kind of low-light conditions found in offices and interior rooms. Rotating the pot every week or two keeps the vines growing evenly in all directions.

Hang it in a basket near a kitchen window, where the ambient moisture from cooking helps keep humidity levels up. Move it outside for summer or leave it on a covered porch through autumn. The sap can cause skin and paw irritation, so it is best placed on a high shelf out of reach of pets and small children. It grows well under standard office LEDs, and the trailing vines can extend from a hanging hook without pruning for months at a time.

  •   Glacier English Ivy grows well in low, medium, or bright indirect light, including under office LED fixtures.

It needs water every 10 to 14 days, and it wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long.

Ivy does best in a well-draining, peat-based or coco coir potting mix with added perlite for aeration.

It prefers temperatures between 50°F and 75°F and is sensitive to direct airflow from AC vents or heaters.

Ivy is a fast-growing trailing and vining plant; feed it a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 5 through 9, tolerating brief dips to around -20°F in the coldest zones. It grows outdoors year-round in states including California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Hawaii. It can also overwinter outdoors across much of the Midwest and mid-Atlantic, including Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey.
  • Q: Is Glacier English Ivy safe for pets and children?
A: Cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat it, and the sap can irritate skin and paws on contact. Keep it on a high shelf away from small children as well.

Q: How much light does this plant actually need?
A: Glacier English Ivy grows in low to bright indirect light, but south-facing windows with direct afternoon sun can scorch the leaves, showing up as bleached or brown patches on the white margins.

Q: How do I know when Ivy needs water?
A: The leaves will wilt or go slightly soft when the soil has dried out. Check the top inch of soil with your finger before watering, and if you notice yellowing lower leaves, that often points to the soil staying too wet between waterings.

Q: How fast does it grow, and does it need a hanging basket?
A: Ivy grows quickly during spring and summer and produces long trailing stems that will spill over the sides of a pot. A hanging hook or elevated shelf lets the vines extend naturally without bunching at the base.

Q: Can Ivy survive while I'm away on a trip?
A: It handles a stretch of 10 or so days without water, as long as the soil isn't already bone dry before you leave and the pot isn't sitting in direct sun.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: Ivy roots easily from stem cuttings. Snip a stem just below a leaf node, place it in water or moist potting mix, and roots typically form within two to three weeks in a warm spot.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
