  •   Echeveria purpusorum 'Dionysos' is a compact rosette-forming succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the rocky, semi-arid regions of Mexico. It is a rare collector succulent, valued for its slow growth and tightly structured form.

Dionysos forms a dense rosette of thick, triangular leaves that taper to a sharp point. The leaf surface is pale green to gray-green, covered with irregular brownish-red mottling across the upper face. In brighter light, those mottled markings deepen in contrast against the base color. The rosette stays compact, rarely exceeding 3 to 4 inches across.

It produces slender stalks bearing small coral-to-orange flowers, typically in spring or early summer. A night temperature drop encourages blooming, so moving it to a cooler room in late winter can help trigger a flower stalk. This plant is pet friendly, so it can sit in shared spaces without concern.

Rotate Dionysos a quarter turn every few weeks so all sides of the rosette receive even light exposure. It is sensitive to being moved between spots, so pick a location and keep it there as much as possible. Move it outside for summer, but keep it covered or sheltered from rain, as standing water in the rosette can cause rot. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when dry.

  •   Echeveria purpusorum 'Dionysos' grows well in bright indirect light to direct sun, avoiding harsh midday south-window exposure that scorches leaves.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Dionysos does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with perlite at a 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and is sensitive to cold drafts from air conditioning or heating vents.

Dionysos is a slow-growing succulent; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It can stay outdoors through autumn in those zones before nighttime temperatures drop too low.
  • Q: Is Echeveria purpusorum 'Dionysos' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and safe around cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when this succulent needs water?
A: Watch the leaves on Echeveria purpusorum 'Dionysos' — it wilts slightly and the leaves feel softer when it has been dry too long.

Q: Can Dionysos handle being placed near an air conditioner?
A: It is sensitive to direct airflow from AC units and heaters, so keep it away from vents. Dry heated air is tolerated, but a direct cold draft can stress the plant.

Q: How fast does this plant grow?
A: Dionysos is a slow-growing succulent, typically adding only a little size each season. Expect gradual, compact growth rather than rapid spreading.

Q: Can Dionysos go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay above 50°F. Keep it sheltered from rain, as water pooling in the rosette can cause rot.

Q: What happens if I overwater this succulent?
A: Dionysos is prone to root rot if the soil stays wet for too long. Leaves may turn soft or translucent at the base before the damage becomes visible.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
