  •   Echeveria Hanaikada is a rare Japanese hybrid succulent in the Crassulaceae family, developed through selective hybridization in Japan. Its name, "Hanaikada," translates roughly to "flower raft" in Japanese, a nod to the rosette's layered, overlapping leaf arrangement.

'Hanaikada' forms a compact rosette of broad, spade-shaped leaves that taper to a soft point. The leaves are a muted blue-green base that flushes toward dusty lavender and burgundy-red at the tips and edges when exposed to strong light. Each leaf is covered in a fine powdery farina, giving the surface a frosted appearance that holds well across seasons.

Flower information for this cultivar is not widely documented, but 'Hanaikada' may push bloom stalks in late spring or early summer following a drop in nighttime temperatures. A consistent night temperature drop encourages it to set buds. This plant is pet-friendly, so it can sit safely in shared spaces with cats and dogs, and it produces small amounts of pollen that may be relevant for allergy-sensitive households.

Move it outside once temperatures settle above 50°F in summer, but keep it sheltered from rain, as water pooling in the rosette can cause rot. Rotate the pot every week or two so all sides receive even light exposure. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it tolerates the dry, heated air common in winter interiors. Because it stays compact and slow-growing, 'Hanaikada' fits well on windowsills or shelving alongside other drought-tolerant succulents, and its relative rarity makes it a sought-after piece in Japanese hybrid collections.

  •   Echeveria Hanaikada grows well in bright indirect light to partial direct sun, ideally near an east or west-facing window.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

'Hanaikada' does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix with a ratio of roughly 50% perlite to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should be kept away from air conditioning vents and heating units.

'Hanaikada' is a slow-growing succulent; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating outdoor temperatures down to around 25°F for brief periods. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It can also stay outside through autumn in parts of Oregon and Washington before temperatures drop below its threshold.
  • Q: Is Echeveria Hanaikada safe to keep around cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know if this succulent is getting too much or too little light?
A: Echeveria Hanaikada will stretch and lean toward the light source when it isn't getting enough, and the farina on leaves can bleach or show dry patches when the sun is too intense, particularly through a south-facing window at midday.

Q: Can 'Hanaikada' survive a ten-day trip without being watered?
A: Yes, as long as the soil is fully dry before you leave and the pot is not sitting in direct heat, it handles ten days comfortably without water.

Q: How quickly does this succulent grow?
A: 'Hanaikada' grows slowly, typically adding only a few leaves per season, so the rosette stays compact for a long time.

Q: Does 'Hanaikada' need to be rotated?
A: Yes, rotate it a quarter turn every one to two weeks so the rosette develops evenly on all sides.

Q: Can this succulent go outside during summer?
A: 'Hanaikada' does well outdoors in warm weather, but place it under a covered area or overhang to protect the rosette from rain accumulation.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
