  •   Bonsai Juniper, also called Juniper Bonsai, is a miniature evergreen tree shaped through the ancient Japanese art of bonsai, typically grown from species in the genus Juniperus. Native to temperate regions across Asia, Europe, and North America, it has been cultivated as an outdoor bonsai for centuries.

The foliage consists of short, dense needle-like or scale-like leaves in blue-green to gray-green tones, growing along fine, woody branches that taper toward the tips. The trunk develops a gnarled, textured bark over time, and the overall canopy can be trained into layered pads or sweeping forms through regular pruning and wiring. As an evergreen bonsai, it holds its needle foliage year-round.

Bonsai Juniper produces small pollen cones and, on female plants, tiny seed cones that appear as blue-gray berries. It does produce pollen and can trigger seasonal allergies in sensitive individuals. The plant is pet-friendly, so it can sit safely in homes with cats and dogs.

Rotate it every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure. It is sensitive to placement changes, so once you find a stable outdoor or bright spot, keep it there as long as possible. Move it outside for summer, and it can stay outdoors through autumn since it handles cooler fall temperatures well. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as dry forced air affects the foliage. It needs high humidity, so a humidity tray or regular misting helps when kept indoors.

  •   Bonsai Juniper grows best in direct sun, ideally placed outdoors or in the brightest spot available.

It needs watering every five to seven days, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Bonsai Juniper does best in a fast-draining bonsai soil mix, often a blend of akadama, pumice, and coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 50°F and 80°F and tolerates brief frost, but performs best with consistent outdoor conditions.

Bonsai Juniper grows slowly, gaining a small amount of new branch length each season, and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, tolerating temperatures down to around -30°F at the lower end of that range. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and many other states across those zones. It can also overwinter outdoors in colder zone 4 areas such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan with appropriate siting.
  • Q: How much sun does Bonsai Juniper need each day?
A: At least four to six hours of direct sun daily keeps the foliage dense and the structure healthy. A south- or east-facing outdoor spot works well.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Bonsai Juniper wilts slightly and the soil pulls away from the pot edges when it has gone too long without water. Overwatering shows as yellowing or browning foliage at the tips.

Q: Is Bonsai Juniper safe to keep around cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Q: How fast does it grow, and will it outgrow its pot quickly?
A: Bonsai Juniper is a slow grower, so it stays in its pot for several years before needing a repot, typically every two to three years in spring.

Q: Can Juniper Bonsai stay outside in winter?
A: Yes, it is frost hardy and can remain outdoors through winter in most temperate climates. In zones 4 and 5, placing it against a sheltered wall or in an unheated garage during the coldest weeks helps protect the roots.

Q: Does it need a lot of humidity indoors?
A: Juniper Bonsai needs higher humidity than most homes provide, especially in winter when heating systems dry the air. A shallow tray filled with water and pebbles placed beneath the pot raises the humidity around the foliage.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
