        The leaves are large, ovate, and deeply ridged, with a surface that resembles reptile scales pressed into thick, dark green leaf tissue. Pale mint-green to silvery variegation sits between the raised veins, creating a two-tone pattern across each leaf. The undersides are a contrasting deep purple-green, and the leaf edges have a slightly scalloped outline. Each new leaf unfurls from a central stem and sits upright on a sturdy petiole.
