  •   Sedum Rubrotinctum, also called Jelly Bean Plant, is a succulent from the Crassulaceae family native to Mexico, where it evolved on rocky, sun-drenched slopes with fast-draining soil. It is one of the most drought-tolerant sedums you can grow indoors or outdoors, growing well on minimal water and basic care.

The plant gets its name from its plump, rounded leaves that resemble tiny jelly beans, typically green at the base and flushing pink to red at the tips when exposed to bright light and sun stress. It grows in a trailing, clustering habit, with stems arching outward and spreading wide as they root where they touch soil, eventually creating a low, colorful carpet effect. Leaves are small and densely packed along each stem.

Small star-shaped yellow flowers appear in late winter to early spring, rising on slender stalks above the foliage. Blooms are most reliably triggered by a nighttime temperature drop in autumn, so moving it to a cooler spot can encourage flowering. It also roots readily wherever stems touch moist soil, making propagation simple.

Move it outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot; bring it back inside before nighttime temperatures drop near freezing. It handles dry heated air well but dislikes direct blasts from AC or heater vents, and moving it frequently causes stress, so let it settle in one bright location. The sap can irritate skin and paws, so keep it on a high shelf out of reach of pets and children.

  •   Pink Jelly Bean Sedum - Sedum rubrotinctum grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, with regular rotation for even, balanced growth.

Water it deeply every 10–14 days during the growing season, pulling back to once monthly in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Sedum Rubrotinctum grows best in a well-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with coarse perlite for added drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65–80°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

Sedum Rubrotinctum is a moderate, trailing grower needing only light balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9–11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but performing best where winters stay mild. It grows outdoors year-round across California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. It also thrives along the Oregon coast, in coastal portions of North Carolina, and throughout the warmer corridors of New Mexico and Arkansas where zone 9 conditions apply.
  • Q: How often should I water Pink Jelly Bean Sedum - Sedum rubrotinctum?
A: During the growing season, let soil dry completely between waterings. Once monthly in winter prevents root rot.

    Q: What causes yellow leaves?
A: Yellow leaves on Pink Jelly Bean Sedum - Sedum rubrotinctum usually signal overwatering or poor drainage. Reduce watering frequency, ensure the pot drains freely, and remove any mushy leaves at the base.

Q: Is Sedum Rubrotinctum safe for pets?
A: No. It's mildly toxic to cats and dogs, and the sap can irritate skin and paws. Keep it on a high shelf away from curious pets and children.

Q: How do I propagate it?
A: Sedum Rubrotinctum propagates easily from leaf or stem cuttings. Let the cut ends callous for a day or two, then lay them on dry succulent mix and mist lightly until roots appear.

Q: Can Jelly Bean Plant stay outside year-round?
A: Only in zones 9–11. In colder regions, move it outside for summer in a bright, sheltered spot and bring it back inside before nighttime temperatures near freezing. Protect it from heavy rain to prevent rot.

Q: What window placement works best indoors?
A: A bright south- or east-facing window with several hours of direct or bright indirect light daily keeps Jelly Bean Plant compact and encourages the pink-to-red color shift. Rotate the pot regularly so all sides develop evenly.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
