  •   Echeveria Nodolusa 'Benitsukasa', also called Painted Echeveria, is a rare Japanese hybrid succulent in the Crassulaceae family. This cultivar was refined in Japan from Mexican Echeveria species to showcase exceptional leaf coloration and a compact upright form.

'Benitsukasa' forms tight rosettes with spoon-shaped leaves edged and striped in deep red, burgundy, and purple against a silvery-green base. The painted effect is highly consistent across each rosette, creating a hand-decorated appearance. As it matures, the plant clusters to produce offsets, building a full sculptural display over time.

During spring and summer, it produces slender arching stems tipped with small coral to reddish-orange blooms. A slight drop in nighttime temperatures encourages it to set flower buds. The plant does produce pollen, so keep that in mind if household members have sensitivities.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer to encourage growth and deepen leaf color, but keep it sheltered from rain to prevent rot. 'Benitsukasa' is pet-friendly and safe around cats and dogs.

  •   Painted Echeveria Nodolusa 'Benitsukasa' grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, but may scorch in intense south-facing windows without gradual acclimation.

Water it deeply every 10–14 days in summer and every 3–4 weeks in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

'Benitsukasa' does best in a well-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with perlite or coarse sand at a 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 65–80°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

'Benitsukasa' is a slow to moderate grower and benefits from a diluted balanced succulent fertilizer applied once monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9–11, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25°F before frost protection becomes essential. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. In cooler states like New Mexico and parts of the Pacific Northwest, it grows as a container plant that moves indoors before the first frost.
  • Q: How often should I water Painted Echeveria Nodolusa 'Benitsukasa'?
A: Water deeply every 10–14 days in summer and every 3–4 weeks in winter. Check soil moisture by inserting your finger an inch down; if it feels damp, delay watering for a few more days.

    Q: Is this beginner-friendly?
A: Painted Echeveria Nodolusa 'Benitsukasa' tolerates occasional dry spells and recovers quickly if left without water for several days, making it suitable for those new to succulents.

    Q: Can 'Benitsukasa' grow indoors?
A: Yes. Place it in a bright window with several hours of direct or bright indirect light daily, and rotate the pot regularly to ensure even, symmetrical rosette growth.

Q: Is it safe for pets?
A: 'Benitsukasa' is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it safe to display in homes with pets.

Q: How rare is Painted Echeveria?
A: It is a rare Japanese hybrid cultivar not commonly found in general garden centers.

Q: Can I propagate this plant?
A: Painted Echeveria produces offsets as it clusters, which can be gently separated and potted up individually. Leaf propagation is also possible, though it is slower for this cultivar.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
