  •   Mammillaria Elongata, also called Lady Fingers Cactus, is a clustering cactus native to the central Mexican highlands where it grows among rocky, arid terrain. This cactus has small upright compact form and excellent drought tolerance for small species worldwide.

It produces slender, cylindrical stems covered in tight spiraling tubercles dotted with golden to reddish-brown spines. The clustering habit creates dense mounds of finger-like columns that remain visually distinctive even without blooms, and individual stems reach 4 to 6 inches tall while clumps spread several inches wide over time.

Mammillaria Elongata flowers in late winter to early spring, producing pale yellow to cream-colored blooms that form rings around the tops of the stems. Flowering is triggered by cooler nighttime temperatures during winter, so placing the plant where it cools after dark increases the odds of consistent seasonal blooms.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered spot, but keep it covered from rain to prevent rot. The spines can cause skin and paw irritation, so keep it on a high shelf out of reach. It grows well in dish gardens, windowsill arrangements, and sunny patio containers.

  •   Lady Fingers Cactus Mammillaria Elongata grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though intense south-facing windows may cause scorching without gradual acclimatization.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks during spring and summer, then reduce to once a month or less in fall and winter to avoid root rot.

Mammillaria Elongata does best in a fast-draining cactus mix blended with perlite or coarse sand for maximum drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 85°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

Mammillaria Elongata is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a light balanced cactus fertilizer once monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11 and tolerates brief dips to around 25°F with frost protection. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada. Gardeners along the Oregon coast and in sheltered microclimates of New Mexico and Arkansas may also grow it outside seasonally with proper placement and winter frost cover.
  • Q: Is Lady Fingers Cactus Mammillaria Elongata pet friendly?
A: The spines can cause skin or paw irritation, so keep it out of reach of curious hands and pets.

Q: Can I propagate this cactus easily?
A: Lady Fingers Cactus Mammillaria Elongata propagates readily from offsets. Gently separate them from the base, let them callous for a day or two, then plant them in dry cactus mix.

Q: How tall does Mammillaria Elongata get?
A: Individual stems reach 4 to 6 inches tall, while clustering clumps spread several inches wide over time.

Q: Why are the stems turning yellow?
A: Mammillaria Elongata turns yellow from overwatering, poor drainage, or prolonged exposure to cold air from vents or AC units.

Q: What window direction is best for Lady Fingers Cactus?
A: A bright south or west-facing window works well, but move it back slightly if the stems start to scorch in intense afternoon heat.

Q: How long can it go without water?
A: Lady Fingers Cactus can survive up to ten days without water. Check that the soil is completely dry before the next watering.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
