  •   Hatiora Salicornioides, also called Dancing Bones, is an epiphytic forest cactus native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it grows perched on trees and rocky outcrops in humid, filtered light. Unlike typical desert cacti, this cactus belongs to the family Cactaceae and grows well in conditions quite different from what most cacti prefer.

Its jointed, bottle-shaped stem segments stack and branch in every direction, creating a wild, upright then trailing growth habit that spills over pot edges. The stems are bright green and smooth, clustering densely as they grow and developing a distinctly quirky silhouette. It branches freely and develops a full, cascading form ideal for hanging baskets and shelves.

Small yellow to orange blooms appear at the stem tips, typically in late winter to spring, triggered by exposure to cooler nighttime temperatures in autumn and winter. No fragrance has been noted, though the warm color against the green foliage provides a seasonal display. Blooming occurs when plants experience a natural temperature drop below 60°F during the dormant season.

Rotate it every few weeks for even, balanced growth, and keep it away from air conditioning or heating vents that blast dry air directly on the stems. This cactus is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs. Move it outdoors to a sheltered, shaded spot during summer months. It can be propagated easily by snapping off stem segments of two to three joints, letting them callous for a day or two, then placing them in lightly moist cactus mix, where roots typically develop within a few weeks.

  •   Dancing Bones Hatiora Salicornioides Cactus grows well in bright indirect light or partial sun, away from harsh direct rays that can scorch its tender stems.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, reducing to once every 3 to 4 weeks in winter when growth slows.

Hatiora Salicornioides does best in a well-draining cactus soil blended with perlite or orchid bark for extra aeration and moisture control.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 80°F and should never be exposed to frost or temperatures below 50°F for extended periods.

Hatiora Salicornioides is a moderate grower that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, tolerating minimum temperatures around 30 to 35°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, southern Texas, and southern Arizona. It also succeeds in warmer pockets of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, coastal Oregon, and Gulf Coast regions of Nevada.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
