  •   Crassula Mesembryanthemoides Tarantula is a rare succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the rocky, arid regions of South Africa. It has adapted to thrive in dry, sun-drenched conditions with minimal water, making it an exciting find for anyone serious about succulents.

The plant is recognizable by its upright, clustering stems densely packed with small, fleshy leaves coated in fine silvery-white hairs. The silver-grey coating catches the light, lending a shimmering, almost frosted appearance. The clustering growth habit means a single plant gradually fills out into an architectural clump of silvery stems. Rotating Crassula Mesembryanthemoides regularly ensures every side develops evenly and maintains a full, symmetrical form.

It produces small, star-shaped flowers typical of the Crassula genus, and like many crassulas it benefits from a night temperature drop to encourage blooming.

Move it outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot where it soaks up natural light, but cover it from heavy rain since the fuzzy leaves trap moisture that can lead to rot. Bring it back indoors before temperatures drop in autumn. The plant is toxic to cats and dogs, so position it on a high shelf or elevated display away from small children. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Stem cuttings root readily in warm, bright conditions within a few weeks.

  •   Crassula Mesembryanthemoides Tarantula grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though intense south-facing windows may scorch its silvery leaves.

Water it deeply every 10-14 days in summer and reduce to once a month in winter, letting soil dry fully between waterings.

Crassula Mesembryanthemoides does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with perlite or coarse grit to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop below 30°F.

Crassula Mesembryanthemoides is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from diluted balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, where winter temperatures rarely fall below 20-25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, as well as along the Oregon coast. Parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and coastal North Carolina also fall within these zones.
  • Q: How often should I water Crassula Mesembryanthemoides Tarantula?
A: Every 10-14 days during the growing season, letting soil dry completely. Cut back to once a month in winter, as it stores water in its leaves.

Q: Is this plant safe around pets and children?
A: Crassula Mesembryanthemoides Tarantula is toxic to cats and dogs and should be placed away from small children. A high shelf keeps it safely out of reach while displaying its silvery form.

Q: What happens if Crassula Mesembryanthemoides gets too much direct sun?
A: The silvery leaves can scorch in intense south-facing windows. Bright indirect light or partial sun is ideal for maintaining the foliage.

Q: How fast does it grow?
A: Crassula Mesembryanthemoides grows slowly to moderately, gradually filling out into a clustered form over time without needing frequent repotting.

Q: Can Crassula Mesembryanthemoides be propagated?
A: Stem cuttings root readily when allowed to callous for a day or two, then placed in dry succulent mix in warm, bright conditions. New roots establish within a few weeks.

Q: What is the mature size?
A: Crassula Mesembryanthemoides forms upright clusters that eventually reach 2-6 inches tall depending on light and growing conditions, staying compact enough for windowsills and shelves.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
