  •   Cotyledon Pendens, also called Cliff Cotyledon, is a rare trailing succulent native to the Eastern Cape cliffs and rocky gorges of South Africa. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family and clings naturally to vertical rock faces, which explains its dramatic cascading growth habit.

The foliage consists of plump, cylindrical leaves arranged in neat opposing pairs along long, arching stems that trail dramatically. Each leaf is coated in a powdery silver-green bloom and tipped with red that deepens in bright light. The trailing growth form makes it exceptional when displayed in a hanging basket or on a high shelf.

Tall flower stalks emerge topped with pendulous, tubular orange-red blooms that appear in late spring to summer. The flowers attract hummingbirds and provide a vivid contrast against the silvery foliage.

Move it outside for summer in a warm, sheltered spot, but always provide cover from rain since excess moisture causes rot. Rotate the plant every few weeks to keep growth even and full on all sides. Keep it away from small children and ensure cats and dogs do not nibble or eat it, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation on contact. Stem cuttings propagate reliably when allowed to callous for a day or two before placing in dry succulent mix; roots develop within a few weeks in a warm, bright spot.

  •   Cotyledon Pendens - Cliff Cotyledon grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, but may scorch in intense, unshaded south-facing windows.

Water it thoroughly every 10-14 days in summer, reducing to once every 3-4 weeks in winter, and let soil dry completely between waterings.

Cotyledon Pendens performs best in fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite or coarse grit for maximum drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 50-80°F and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop near freezing.

Cotyledon Pendens is a moderate, wide-spreading trailer with stems reaching 12-24 inches or more in length, benefiting from light balanced succulent fertilizer once monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 9-11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but performing best without frost exposure. It grows outdoors year-round across California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and along the mild Oregon coast. Parts of North Carolina, coastal Virginia, and select microclimates in New Mexico and Arkansas within Zone 9 can also support it with seasonal protection.
  • Q: How often should I water Cotyledon Pendens - Cliff Cotyledon?
A: Water thoroughly every 10-14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings. Scale back to every 3-4 weeks in winter.

Q: Is it safe around cats and dogs?
A: Cotyledon Pendens - Cliff Cotyledon is not safe for pets; the sap causes skin and paw irritation, so keep it well out of reach.

Q: What light direction works best indoors for Cotyledon Pendens?
A: A spot with bright indirect light or some direct morning sun near a well-lit window works best. Avoid intense, unshaded south-facing windows to prevent leaf scorch.

Q: How do I propagate it?
A: Cotyledon Pendens propagates reliably from stem cuttings; allow the cut end to callous for a day or two, then place it in dry succulent mix and keep it warm and bright until roots develop within a few weeks.

Q: How large does Cliff Cotyledon grow?
A: Stems can reach 12-24 inches or more in length, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets.

Q: Can it survive outdoors year-round in cold climates?
A: Cliff Cotyledon requires USDA Zones 9-11 for year-round outdoor growing; it tolerates brief dips to 25°F but performs best without frost exposure, so bring it indoors before winter in colder regions.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
