The plant is recognizable by its small, teardrop-shaped leaves that line long, slender trailing stems. Each leaf is plump with stored water and marked with a translucent stripe running lengthwise like a tiny window. The bead-like foliage cascades downward in a soft trailing form. The stems remain slender even as they lengthen.
Senecio Herreianus produces small, brush-like white flowers when it receives a temperature drop during cooler months, though the plant is primarily grown for its foliage rather than its blooms. The flowers are modest and fleeting, appearing only occasionally. It can survive extended periods without water thanks to its water-storing leaves.
Hang it near a bright window or move it outside in summer to a sheltered spot with indirect light. Rotate the pot every couple of weeks for even, balanced growth. Keep it on a high shelf well out of reach of pets and small children, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation. Propagation is straightforward: allow stem cuttings to callous for a day or two, then place them in dry succulent soil and water sparingly until roots establish.
