The leaves are round to oval, with silvery-green stripes radiating from the center over a darker green background, closely resembling the rind of a watermelon. Each leaf sits on a burgundy-red petiole that attaches at the center of the leaf underside, a structure called a peltate attachment. The leaf surface has a slightly waxy, smooth texture, and individual leaves can reach about two inches across on a mature plant.
Watermelon Peperomia produces small, inconspicuous flower spikes on thin reddish stems. The blooms are pale and carry no noticeable fragrance. It is non-toxic to cats and dogs, and it actively filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor air.
Tuck it into a terrarium where the enclosed humidity suits it well, or set it near a kitchen window where ambient moisture keeps it comfortable. You can move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot, but keep it covered from rain and away from direct sun to avoid scorching the foliage. It wilts slightly when dry, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. Sensitive to cold drafts from AC vents or heating units, it does best away from direct airflow.

You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
