The plant forms a tight, symmetrical rosette of thick, spoon-shaped leaves with subtle pointed tips. Its powdery blue-green foliage shifts toward pink at the edges, especially when exposed to bright light. The fleshy leaves pack closely together in a geometric pattern that rarely exceeds 4 inches across and 2–3 inches tall, maintaining its refined shape throughout its life.
In late spring through early summer, 'Chico' sends up tall flower stalks crowned with bell-shaped orange-pink blooms. The plant releases oxygen at night, making it a suitable companion for bedrooms.
Move it outside for summer, but protect it from rain to prevent rot and bring it indoors once temperatures drop toward 40°F. 'Chico' is completely non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Rotate it regularly for even growth, and it tolerates dry indoor air while staying sensitive to direct drafts from air conditioning or heaters.
