The leaves are the main draw: they emerge with patches of cream, gray, and deep red or burgundy tones over a dark green base, and the color pattern shifts slightly as new growth appears. It stays relatively compact, reaching 12-18 inches tall with a modest spread, and the leaves sit close along the stems. The foliage texture is smooth and waxy, and each leaf tapers slightly to a point.
Pictum Tricolor flowers indoors are rare and inconspicuous, but the plant is grown almost entirely for its tricolor foliage. The leaves continue to develop deeper burgundy tones over time as it matures.
Move it outside for summer in warm climates to encourage growth and stronger color. It grows well as a tabletop or shelf plant in bedrooms, offices, and living rooms, and works exceptionally well in terrariums where its compact size fits perfectly. Pictum Tricolor is a slow-grower that needs pruning only if stems become leggy, and it benefits from rotation every few weeks to maintain even growth on all sides. Keep it on a high shelf or away from small children and pets, as the sap causes skin and paw irritation if touched or ingested.
Chinese Evergreen Pictum Tricolor grows well under office LED lighting and in bright indirect light, but scorches in direct south-facing windows.

You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
