    •   Giant Jewel - Aloinopsis malherbei, also called Giant Jewel Plant, is a compact succulent native to South Africa. It belongs to the Aizoaceae family and forms tight, low-growing rosettes in arid, rocky habitats.

The leaves are small, fleshy, and deep forest green with white or pale edges that form a neat, geometric rosette. Each leaf tapers to a point, creating a miniature architectural form rarely exceeding 4 inches across. The foliage shifts to red and burgundy tones when exposed to intense direct sun, a natural stress response that adds seasonal color variation to collections.

In spring and early summer, Aloinopsis malherbei produces small daisy-like flowers in shades of yellow or magenta that emerge from the center of the rosette. Blooms appear sporadically and are short-lived but stand out against the compact green and red foliage.

It tolerates dry, heated indoor air and needs protection from rain and standing water to prevent rot. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Aloinopsis malherbei grows slowly and rarely needs pruning, staying compact enough for small containers, terrariums, or display baskets for years without repotting. The plant is dangerous if ingested by pets and should be kept out of reach of cats and dogs.

    •   Giant Jewel - Aloinopsis malherbei grows well in direct sun or low-light locations, though intense sun deepens leaf color.

Water it every 14-21 days during the growing season, reducing frequency in winter to once per month or less.

Aloinopsis malherbei does best in gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent mix with added perlite or sand.

It prefers temperatures between 50°F and 80°F and tolerates brief frost down to 32°F.

Aloinopsis malherbei is a slow-grower requiring minimal fertilizer; apply dilute cactus fertilizer once in spring only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9, 10, and 11. It grows outdoors year-round in southern California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and other warm regions. It tolerates frost down to 32°F but needs protection below freezing.

    • Q: Can Giant Jewel - Aloinopsis malherbei survive a 10-day trip without watering?
A: Yes, it can go unwatered for up to ten days. The leaves will feel less firm when soil moisture is depleted.

Q: What light does this succulent need indoors?
A: Giant Jewel - Aloinopsis malherbei grows in direct sun or low-light spots, though intense light brings out deeper red tones in the foliage.

Q: How do I know when Aloinopsis malherbei needs water?
A: Stick your finger an inch below the soil surface; if no moisture remains, it is time to water. Overwatering causes soft, translucent leaves and root rot.

Q: Does it need special fertilizer?
A: Aloinopsis malherbei needs minimal feeding; one dilute application of cactus fertilizer in spring is sufficient for the entire year.

Q: Is Giant Jewel Plant toxic to pets?
A: Yes, it is dangerous if ingested by cats or dogs. Keep it on a shelf or in a locked cabinet away from pets.

Q: How fast does Giant Jewel Plant grow?
A: It grows slowly and can stay in a 4-inch pot for several years without needing to be repotted.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
