I ordered the assorted air plants back in January, and this gnarly lookin' little guy got put to the back of the shelf because (in comparison to its other more 'visually appealing' counterparts) it wasn't much to look at. Three months later, this hustler is flourishing and flowering! I'd previously installed full spectrum LED strip lights to the underside of my bookshelf for my other plants (which function on an eight hour timer), and this is the only source of light that Señor/a Tillandsia Schiedeana receives. I filled an old ceramic pot with pebbles from my fish tank and have since just left it propped above them to look like all its other fellow-apartment-variety botanical friends. Through trial and error I've discovered which air plants thrive in the dry, over-heated, yet under-lit conditions of old tenement buildings; parried with a sprinkle of neglect due to busy city living... Fortunately this plant is a born New Yorker, and now lives front and center on the shelf so I can observe the flowering process daily.
