  •   Peperomia Piccolo Banda, also called peacock peperomia, is a compact tropical houseplant in the Piperaceae family, classified under the species Peperomia albovittata. It originates from the rainforest floors of Ecuador and Peru, where it grows in filtered light beneath a dense canopy.

The leaves are broad and oval, with a silver-green surface traced by deep green veins that radiate outward in a pattern resembling a peacock's feather. Piccolo Banda holds its leaves on short, upright stems and stays compact, rarely spreading beyond a few inches in any direction. The undersides of the leaves carry a burgundy-red flush that contrasts with the patterned tops.

Peperomia albovittata produces thin, upright flower spikes that are cream to pale green, typical of the genus. The blooms appear occasionally indoors and carry no fragrance. Piccolo Banda is pet friendly, so it can sit anywhere in the home without concern for cats or dogs.

Keep it away from south-facing windows, where the leaves scorch. It grows well under standard office fluorescent or LED lighting, and a spot near a kitchen window gives it access to ambient moisture. Piccolo Banda fits neatly into a terrarium, though it needs a cover to protect it from direct rain if moved outdoors. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, since blowing air dries out the stems quickly even though it tolerates the dry heat of a warmed room in general. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. Rotate the pot occasionally so all sides receive even light exposure.

  •   Peperomia Piccolo Banda grows well in bright indirect light and holds its leaf pattern well under office LEDs.

It needs water every 10-14 days, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.

Piccolo Banda does best in a well-draining mix of perlite and standard potting soil in roughly equal parts.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should stay away from vents blowing air below 60°F.

Piccolo Banda is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 30°F before frost damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and southern Texas. It can also move outside for summer in zones 9 and below, brought back indoors before temperatures drop in autumn.
  • Q: How often should I water Peperomia Piccolo Banda?
A: When the soil feels dry about an inch down, it is ready for water. It also wilts slightly when it has gone too long without a drink, so the leaves are a useful guide.

Q: Which window direction works best for this plant?
A: Peperomia Piccolo Banda does well in an east or west-facing window, or set a few feet back from a south window. A south window at close range scorches the leaves.

Q: Is Piccolo Banda safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know if I am overwatering?
A: Piccolo Banda develops soft, mushy stems at the base and the lower leaves yellow and drop when it has received too much water too frequently.

Q: Can Piccolo Banda go outside in summer?
A: Move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 60°F, in a spot with shade or filtered light. Bring it back indoors before the first frost in autumn, and keep it covered or sheltered from rain.

Q: How big does this plant get?
A: Piccolo Banda stays compact, typically reaching 6-8 inches in height and spread at maturity, growing slowly over several seasons.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
