  •   Peperomia Obtusifolia Green, also called the Baby Rubber Plant, is a compact tropical houseplant in the Piperaceae family. It originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, where it grows as a low-level epiphyte in warm, humid understories.

The leaves are round to oval, deep green, and covered in a thick, glossy surface that feels almost waxy to the touch. Each leaf sits on a short, upright stem, and the plant forms a dense, bushy mound rather than spreading wide. Leaves typically reach two to four inches across, and the overall plant stays compact enough to fit comfortably on a desk or windowsill.

Baby Rubber Plant produces thin, pale flower spikes called spadices, which appear occasionally in spring and summer but carry no fragrance and are not the plant's main draw. It filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor spaces, and this plant is pet friendly, posing no toxicity risk to cats or dogs.

Rotate Baby Rubber Plant a quarter turn every few weeks so all sides receive even light and the shape stays balanced. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, though it does handle the dry air that central heating produces. Move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot and bring it back indoors before temperatures drop, keeping it covered from rain while outside. It fits well in a terrarium, thrives near the ambient moisture of a kitchen, and grows happily under standard office LED lighting. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and the soil wilts the leaves slightly when it runs dry.

  •   Peperomia Obtusifolia Green grows well in bright indirect light and also adapts to medium light under office LEDs.

It needs water every ten to fourteen days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

Baby Rubber Plant does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir combined with perlite for added aeration.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should stay away from cold drafts below 50°F.

Baby Rubber Plant grows slowly to a mature height of six to twelve inches and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 through 12, where frost is rare or absent and temperatures stay above 30°F year-round. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, Arizona, and Texas along the Gulf Coast. It also grows outdoors in parts of Louisiana, Georgia, and South Carolina where winters stay mild enough to sustain tropical foliage plants.
  • Q: How often should I water Peperomia Obtusifolia Green?
A: When the top inch of soil feels dry and the leaves begin to wilt slightly, it is time to water. Overwatering is the most common issue, causing yellowing leaves and mushy stems at the base.

Q: Why are the leaves on my plant turning yellow?
A: Peperomia Obtusifolia Green most often yellows from overwatering, but direct sun exposure and cold drafts from AC or heating vents can also cause discoloration. Check the soil moisture and the plant's position relative to any nearby vents first.

Q: How do I propagate Baby Rubber Plant?
A: Stem cuttings work best. Take a cutting with at least one node and one or two leaves, let the cut end dry for an hour, then place it in moist potting mix or water. Roots typically appear within two to four weeks.

Q: Will it scorch in a south-facing window?
A: Baby Rubber Plant can scorch in direct south-facing sun, developing pale, bleached patches on the leaves. A few feet back from a south window, or directly in front of an east or west window, keeps the light level safe.

Q: Is Baby Rubber Plant safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs and is listed as pet safe by the ASPCA.

Q: How do I know if my plant needs more light?
A: Baby Rubber Plant will stretch noticeably between nodes and the leaves may become smaller and farther apart when light is too low. Moving it closer to a bright window or directly under an office LED fixture will correct the growth pattern over several weeks.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
