    •   Medium size Dracaena Marginata, also called Dragon Tree, is a slender, upright houseplant native to Madagascar and the surrounding islands of the Indian Ocean. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and grows naturally in dry, rocky, tropical conditions.

        Long, narrow leaves grow in dense tufts at the tips of bare, woody canes, each leaf edged in deep burgundy-red against a dark green center. The canes develop a naturally sculptural, multi-stemmed form over time as lower leaves drop to expose the pale, ringed trunk. At medium size, it typically stands between three and five feet tall and fits comfortably as a floor plant in most indoor rooms.

        Dragon Tree rarely blooms indoors and needs a drop in nighttime temperature to trigger flowering when it does occur. Instead, the plant is known for its air-purifying properties, actively filtering formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor spaces. It also wilts slightly when the soil is dry.

        Rotate it every few weeks so all sides receive equal light and the growth stays even. Keep it away from heating vents and air conditioning units, as the direct airflow dries out the leaf tips. You can move it outside for summer, setting it in a sheltered spot with bright indirect light. Cats and dogs should not be left to nibble the leaves or stems, and contact with the sap can cause skin and paw irritation, so a high shelf or a room pets cannot access is the safest placement. Dragon Tree is sensitive to being moved to a new spot and may drop a few leaves while it adjusts.

    •   Medium size Dracaena Marginata grows well under bright indirect light and tolerates medium light, including standard office LED setups. Direct south-facing sun scorches the leaf edges, so keep it away from unfiltered south windows.

        Water it every ten to fourteen days, allowing the top inch or two of soil to dry between sessions. It tolerates dry, heated indoor air without the leaf tips browning as severely as some tropical plants.

        Dragon Tree does best in a well-draining, loose potting mix, such as a standard indoor blend cut with perlite. Good drainage prevents the root rot that comes with consistently wet soil.

        It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and can handle the dry warmth of heated interiors. Keep it away from cold drafts and any spot that regularly drops below 55°F.

        Dragon Tree is a slow to moderate grower, typically adding one to two feet per year under good indoor conditions. Feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer, and skip feeding entirely in fall and winter.

        It is hardy in USDA zones 10 through 12, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 30°F to 35°F before frost damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, and coastal Southern California. It also does well outside through summer and into early autumn in Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and other warm-season states before being brought back indoors as temperatures fall.

    • Q: How much light does Medium size Dracaena Marginata need?
      A: A north- or east-facing window works well. A west-facing window a few feet back from the glass is fine too. Avoid placing it directly in a south-facing window, where unfiltered light scorches the leaf edges.

      Q: How do I know when to water it?
      A: Medium size Dracaena Marginata wilts slightly and the lower leaves may go limp when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch or two of soil before watering, and if it still feels damp, wait a few more days.

      Q: Is Dragon Tree safe to have around pets?
