  •   Fern 'Emina', also called Curly Boston Fern, is a compact cultivar of Nephrolepis exaltata native to tropical regions of the Americas, Africa, and Polynesia, where it grows in humid forests and shaded understories. It belongs to the Lomariopsidaceae family and has been widely grown as a houseplant for its tightly ruffled fronds.

The fronds on Curly Boston Fern are densely layered with crinkled, ruffled leaflets that curl and overlap along each arching stem. Leaflets are a mid-green color with a textured, wavy surface that gives the whole plant a fuller, more compact appearance than a standard Boston fern. It grows in a cascading habit with fronds that trail outward and downward from the center.

Ferns do not produce flowers. Curly Boston Fern reproduces through spores, which form in small clusters on the undersides of mature fronds. It is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs, and it actively purifies indoor air by filtering formaldehyde and other airborne toxins while naturally adding moisture to the surrounding air.

Hang it in a basket near a kitchen or bathroom where ambient moisture stays consistently high. It is sensitive to being moved once settled, so choose its spot thoughtfully before placing it. You can move it outside for summer in a sheltered, shaded spot, and it may stay outdoors into early autumn in mild climates. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as dry forced air causes frond browning and leaf drop.

  •   Fern 'Emina' thrives in bright indirect light, away from south-facing windows where direct sun scorches the fronds.

Water it thoroughly every 5-7 days, keeping the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged.

Curly Boston Fern does best in a peat-based or coco coir mix with added perlite for drainage and moisture retention.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 75°F and drops below 50°F cause stress and frond dieback.

Curly Boston Fern is a moderate to fast grower and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating brief dips no lower than 25°F-30°F before sustaining frost damage. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, California, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada. It can also grow outdoors in sheltered parts of Oregon and Washington during milder winters.
  • Q: Is Fern 'Emina' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs and safe to keep in homes with pets.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Fern 'Emina' wilts slightly and its fronds droop when the soil has dried out too long, so check the top inch of soil and water before it gets fully dry.

Q: Does Curly Boston Fern grow well under office lighting?
A: It can grow under bright LED office lights if the fixture is close enough to provide consistent intensity throughout the day.

Q: How big does it get indoors?
A: Curly Boston Fern typically reaches 12-18 inches tall and spreads 18-24 inches wide at maturity when grown in a hanging basket indoors.

Q: Why are the fronds on Curly Boston Fern turning brown at the tips?
A: Brown tips are most often caused by dry air from an air conditioning or heating vent blowing directly on the plant, or by low humidity in the room.

Q: How do I encourage even growth on all sides?
A: Curly Boston Fern benefits from a quarter turn every 1-2 weeks so all fronds receive equal light exposure.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
