  •   Dracaena 'Lime Light' (Dracaena fragrans 'Lime Light'), also called the Limelight Dracaena, is a tropical foliage plant native to central and west Africa, where it grows as an understory shrub beneath a canopy of taller trees. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and has become a go-to low light houseplant for indoor spaces that can't offer much direct sun.

The leaves are long, sword-shaped, and chartreuse to neon yellow-green, fading slightly toward the margins. They emerge from a central rosette at the top of a thick, cane-like stem, fanning outward in a full, layered arrangement. As the plant matures, lower leaves drop naturally and the bare cane lengthens, giving it the upright, tree-like form common to corn plants in the Dracaena fragrans group.

Flowering indoors is rare and unpredictable. When it does occur, small clusters of white to pale cream flowers appear on a central stalk and carry a noticeable sweet fragrance at night. Limelight Dracaena is better known for its air purifying qualities indoors, filtering formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from the surrounding environment.

Rotate the pot a quarter turn every few weeks so all sides of the plant receive even light exposure. It does well near a kitchen, where ambient moisture from cooking and washing keeps the air from drying out too much. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, both of which can cause leaf tip browning. You can move it outside for the summer in a sheltered spot, but cover it or bring it in during rain, and bring it back indoors before temperatures drop in autumn. Cats, dogs, and toddlers should be kept away from it; the leaves and stems are harmful if nibbled or eaten, so a high shelf or an out-of-reach spot works well.

  •   Dracaena 'Lime Light' grows well under office fluorescent or LED lighting and in bright indirect light indoors.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, letting the top inch of soil dry out between waterings.

Limelight Dracaena does best in a well-draining, peat-based potting mix with added perlite.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not drop below 50°F.

Limelight Dracaena is a slow grower; feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is not a regular occurrence and temperatures stay above 30°F year-round. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and parts of coastal Texas and Arizona. It also grows outdoors year-round in Puerto Rico and other warm US territories within those zones.
  • Q: Is Dracaena 'Lime Light' safe for pets?
A: Cats and dogs should not be left to nibble or eat it. Keep it on a high shelf or in a room pets cannot access freely.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Dracaena 'Lime Light' wilts slightly and the leaves lose a little of their firmness when it has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil before watering rather than following a fixed schedule.

Q: Can Limelight Dracaena handle a south-facing window?
A: A south-facing window is too intense. Direct sun bleaches and scorches the leaves, leaving pale or brown patches that won't recover. A few feet back from an east or west window works better.

Q: How long can it go without water if I'm traveling?
A: Limelight Dracaena can go up to ten days without a watering. Overwatering is a more common problem than drought stress, so err on the side of waiting rather than watering before you leave.

Q: Can Limelight Dracaena go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 55°F. Choose a spot with shade or filtered light, and cover it or bring it indoors on rainy days to avoid waterlogged soil.

Q: Why are the tips of my plant's leaves turning brown?
A: Limelight Dracaena is sensitive to dry air from heaters and air conditioning. Brown tips are most often caused by low humidity or a heating or cooling vent blowing directly onto the foliage. Moving it away from vents usually slows the browning.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
