  •   Dracaena Lemon Lime (Dracaena deremensis) is a tropical houseplant in the Asparagaceae family, native to tropical Africa. It grows as an upright cane plant with bold, sword-shaped leaves striped in neon green, yellow-green, and white.

The leaves are long and arching, with bright neon green and yellow-green stripes running along the edges and a pale center stripe of white or light green. Each leaf can reach up to two feet long on a mature plant, growing in a rosette pattern around an upright central cane. Lemon Lime Dracaena produces new growth from the top of the cane, gradually building a layered canopy of variegated foliage.

Lemon Lime Dracaena rarely blooms indoors, but when grown with a consistent drop in nighttime temperatures, it can produce small, fragrant flowers on a tall spike. It also filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor air and naturally releases moisture into the surrounding environment.

Rotate it every few weeks so all sides receive equal light and the cane stays upright rather than leaning. It grows well under office fluorescent or LED lighting, and the kitchen is a good spot since the ambient moisture from cooking suits it well. Keep it away from heating vents and air conditioning units, as the dry or cold blasts affect the leaf edges. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered spot, and cover it from direct rain. Cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat it, so a high shelf is the safest placement in a home with pets. You can leave it alone for up to ten days without watering, and it wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long.

  •   Dracaena Lemon Lime grows well in bright indirect light and handles medium light under office LEDs comfortably. Keep it away from south-facing windows where direct sun scorches the leaf edges.

Water it every ten to fourteen days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Reduce frequency in winter when growth slows.

Lemon Lime Dracaena does best in a well-draining potting mix with added perlite. It sits in a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot from standing water.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors year-round. Keep it away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and heater outlets that drop or spike the ambient temperature suddenly.

Lemon Lime Dracaena is a slow to moderate grower, adding a few inches of height per year. Feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 through 12, where frost does not occur and temperatures stay reliably above 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, and parts of coastal Southern California. It can also spend summer months outside in warmer regions of Texas, Arizona, and the Gulf Coast states before being brought back indoors before temperatures drop in autumn.
  • Q: How much light does Dracaena Lemon Lime need?
A: Place it a few feet back from an east- or west-facing window. A south-facing window will scorch the leaf edges, so keep it out of direct sun streams.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Lemon Lime Dracaena wilts slightly and the leaves lose a little tension when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil before watering rather than following a fixed calendar.

Q: Is Lemon Lime Dracaena safe around pets?
A: Cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat it. The sap can also cause skin or paw irritation on contact, so keep it on a high shelf out of reach.

Q: How fast does it grow, and how tall will it get?
A: Lemon Lime Dracaena grows slowly, adding a few inches per year indoors. Over several years it can reach four to six feet tall as the central cane extends upward.

Q: Can Lemon Lime Dracaena move outside for the summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay above 60°F. Choose a sheltered spot with filtered light, and cover it from heavy rain since saturated soil at the roots causes problems.

Q: Why are the leaf tips turning brown?
A: Brown tips on Lemon Lime Dracaena are most often caused by dry air from heating or air conditioning vents, or by fluoride and salts building up from tap water. Moving it away from vents and switching to filtered or rainwater usually slows the browning.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
