    •   Dieffenbachia 'Reflector', also called Reflector Dumb Cane, is a tropical foliage plant in the family Araceae, native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It belongs to the Dieffenbachia genus, a group of bold, broad-leafed houseplants long cultivated for their patterned foliage and air purifying qualities indoors.

        The leaves are large, oval, and held upright on thick green stems, with a deep green base splashed heavily in lime green and cream variegation across the entire surface. Each leaf carries a slightly textured, semi-glossy finish, and the pattern shifts between individual leaves, so no two look exactly alike. The plant grows in an upright, bushy form and can reach two to four feet tall indoors, with leaves spanning six to twelve inches across.

        Dieffenbachia rarely blooms indoors, and Reflector Dumb Cane is no exception. It puts its energy into foliage growth rather than flowers, and indoor blooms are uncommon under typical household conditions. It filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor environments, and qualifies as an air purifying indoor plant under ongoing research into common houseplant benefits.

        Rotating the pot a quarter turn every few weeks keeps growth even, since it leans toward its light source over time. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as direct airflow from either dries out the leaves. Reflector Dumb Cane does well near a kitchen, where ambient moisture from cooking and washing supports the humidity it needs. Cats, dogs, and small children should not have access to the leaves or stems, as the sap causes irritation to skin and paws, and the plant is harmful if any part is chewed or swallowed. A high shelf or a room with a closed door keeps it out of reach.
